I requested a quote through FMCA tonight, we'll see what comes of the request and who will write in my state.

Two years ago Hartford thru AARP wrote a new policy for our 2001 Dutch Star. That would have made it one year older than yours is now. New member, new policy, no problems. Their requirements may have changed, but I think you need to call back and speak to someone else.
Did you want a specific type of coverage? Like Replacement Value? If so, I can see why they might want to not write on an older coach. Ours has full coverage, payoff value NOT TO EXCEED $62,000 if totaled. Maybe going with a "not to exceed" value we got a break. Good Luck!

I didn't ask for anything special and it would be for vacation use not full timing yet. My Coach is presently valued around $110k to $120k so maybe thats why. I will call back and see if I get the same answer, thanks.

OK, broke down and joined AARP. Called The Hartford for a quote. The Hartford doesn't quote just for the RV, you have to include the cars for them to quote directly. If you quote only the RV, they underwrite through Foremost Insurance. I can't include the cars because I have adult children living in the house and because I have a Corvette they won't take the risk. So at the end of the day, I joined AARP for nothing and can't get a quote from The Hartford. Totally frustrating the run around.
At this point, its either Gieco, Progressive or National General.

It's only $18 or so, not the end of life.
Or a good excuse to kick the fledglings out of the nest.

vettenuts, sorry you're having so many problems. Once again, they must have changed their policy as we have ONLY the coach with Hartford. They weren't competitive for the rest of our vehicles. I would try again, ask to speak to a supervisor right off.

Since we are leaving shortly and my current National General policy will lapse while on the road, I went with Gieco. They didn't seem to have anywhere near as many negative reviews and their premium was very competitive.

Not sure, I didn't ask about that as my coach is 12 years old.

Currently we have Nationwide full coverage here in NC. Good agent and we insure all our cars and our boat thru them. Good Sam could not compete price wise or coverage. However we did get Good Sam Roadside Assistance Platinum as an add on. Very satisfied with it. Had to use it when we got bogged down to axle and needed winch out. Good Sam was quick to respond and followed up.

I just got 3 quotes for our new 2018 Miramar 35.3. One from Geico, one from Good Sams (National General) and one from FMCA (Safeco). Geico was about $200-$250 cheaper a year than the other two. However, Geico does not include replacement coverage. Both National General and Safeco provided replacement coverage for the first 5 years and they were within $65 of each other with basically the same coverage. Not having the replacement coverage on a brand new motorhome was a show stopper for me so I am not going with Geico, although I have 3 other vehicles insured with them.

When I was looking for RV insurance for our new Class A motorhome, I read that National General (Good Sam) would save me money on months that I didn't use it (in storage, or just not being used). That could save me lots of money because we will probably only be travelling about 6 months out of the year.
By comparison, I also went to Safeco's website where it clearly says they also offer a "Storage for Winter" discount, referenced here: http://www.safeco.com/rv-insurance/discounts, and in their FAQs, specifically stating that a customer can "save money" by storing their RV for more than 90 consecutive days.
Now to confirm.....
First, I called National General to verify the "non-use" or "storage" discount, and they confirmed it is true. The agent said even one month was ok as long as I let them know in advance. She said I would receive a refund for the unused months. Sounds pretty good.
Next, I called Safeco to verify the storage discount advertised on their website and received these two responses from the agent:
"Safeco does not offer a program where you can remove coverage's while not in use." and "I have spoken with our Safeco specialist. We have met with product & development, they do not offer this lay-up feature."
I asked about the discrepancy between the Safeco website and what the agent told me, and I received no additional explanation.
Needless to say, I went with National General. (I have no affiliation with any insurance company). The cost for full replacement between Safeco and National General was within $50 of each other.

Same here for the first year, then I added the cars since it saved me $ 300 or 400. Even changed the house over after being with Pemco since 1965 and saved another $600 - 700.
The Hartford also gives a break on MH's that are not used for winter travel. Not sure how they figure it other than by miles since I don't have to call to let them know I'm using it.
