Greetings

Have on an 4000 emerald Rv generator, when running the voltage meter jumps all over the place ,any ideas, maybe voltage regulator or control board? thanks

Three types of problems are possible. Voltage in this kind of genset depends on maintaining fixed RPMs regardless of load. (1) If the engine isn't running properly, it cannot comply with the demands of the regulator and speed governor. (2) Of course, if the regulator or governor aren't making the correct demands, that doesn't work either. (3) And if the alternator itself has damaged wires, bad slip ring, or faulty stator, the voltage will never get right.


Usually the first step is to verify that the engine is running smoothly and responding to changes in load (amp demand). If yes, move on to the alternator component. If not delve deeper into what the regulator/governor is doing and how the engine responds (or not).

First thing I would check is your volt meter gauge.
