Hair dryer for boondocking
Discovered that my hair dryer causes an error and a very loud alarm when I try to use it with just the inverter. Does anyone have a low voltage one that works in that situation or do I just have to use the genny?

Hair dryers or anything else that uses 'resistance' to create heat draw a huge amount of power. Use the generator.

There are several 12 volt hair dryers available but can't give opinion on them.

A low wattage hair dryer is what you need. Low is considered around 1000 Watts. But Amazon has a 650 Watt dryer advertised for Dogs and Cats - but will work on people too) https://www.amazon.com/Andis-Gentle-...att+hair+dryer
It just takes a little longer for your hair to dry, but your coach will love it. I would just get the 1,000 Watt model - because we don't have that much time to waste.

What ever the late DW had in the house worked in the MH's, didn't have to get a low wattage one even in the DSDP with MSW inverter. But that inverter was a 2000 watt and the present rig is 3000 PSW.

We can run our home-style blow dryer (1800W capable) on "low" of 3 settings on the inverter without alarm. The inverter is a 2500W (3000W peak unit).
The alarm sounds when draw causes a voltage drop below settings.
To crank-up the blow dryer to full/hi, we must start the engine (alternator charging) or start the gennie.
Options that would fix these symptoms:
*Add batteries to your system - increases the voltage reserve under high draw.
*Keep the blow dryer on a lower setting - prevents a low voltage alarm.
*Add solar panels to charge the batteries - reducing the risk of low voltage alarm.
*Get a low wattage blow dryer like above.
or
Get a 12v blow dryer like:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M3UWETO
Best luck

That hair dryer is rated at 220W (that means it draws 18.5 amps) which is a lot to be pulling through your low voltage automotive wiring for a long time.
My father in-law had a 12V air compressor that plugs into the car's "12 V power port (i.e. Cigarette lighter) and when he went out to fill a tire, the continuous load on the wiring ended up melting the wires under the dash (note it didn't blow fuse).
A 1000 watt (120V) hair dryer pulls 8.3 amps.

Any 12 V hair dryer with a cord you can manage will also be low power.

I agree.
If you're boondocking who cares what your hair looks like. Heck, I Don't care anytime and certainly not while boondocking.

My wife found that using the sun and a brush uses very low voltage.
