Has anyone replaced shower controls

We have nice Moen faucets except for the shower control which is cheap plastic. I would like to replace it but I'm not sure what I would be getting into. Will the connections match up with a household shower control?

Fittings and adaptors can be attached to make about any connection. The issue many complain about is access to the shower control. Do you have access from the back or does the present faucet have a large enough cover plate that you can work from the front?

Our shower control was a residential unit. Piping matched up perfectly. No problem replacing it. Bought the new one at Lowes.

I had not thought of this. I do not have access to the back. Well, that's definitely a problem.

I just looked at a beautiful Fleetwood Revolution where someone clearly ran into this. There was an "access door" behind the shower - no way it was OEM. It was actually configured to match the rest of the wood, but you can also get simple panel inserts too. Regardless, you'll need to get in there one way or another.. It's either going to be removing all the paneling at the back or cutting a hole and finding a way to make it look right afterwards.

I purchased a new shower faucet at a big box store. It was an easy install from the front and there was no access panel.

We have a 40X also as stated below, I am going to change the same control (time premitting) there is a access door in the master cabin behind the sliding door, I believe this door covers the area that may be need to change this control if there is not enought room from the shower side.

If you get to it before I do, let me know how it goes. I will check behind the door.

Just FYI. Our Revolution has a small access door in the bedroom. Open it up and you can get to the shower valve. Didn't think it was added after it was originally built.

If you have compression fittings be sure to put tape or something under them as they will fall down after loosing them and you will not be able to retrieve them for reconnecting the new faucet.
