Question Heated mirror question...

My class A has Velvac heated and power mirrors. Sometimes the heater switch lights up when pressed and sometimes not. My question is, is the a condition that has to be met for them to work? Must it be below a certain temperature? Engine must be running? Something else I'm not thinking of? I live in the south and have never needed to heat my mirrors, but I'd sure like to know how if the need arises! Thanks for any input!

It's easy to check (and no, if you turn them on then they should start to warm the mirrors regardless of the temp) More than likely, the switch is bad. You can pop out the switch and see if current is passing through the terminals with a volt meter. These switches, with the light, are notorious for being faulty

I concur that the glow-portion of a switch (indicating that the switch is in the ON position) fails with age. However, the switch itself is probably providing 12VDC to the mirrors when ON.

Thanks all. I blew the switch out with canned air and it seems to be working now. Probably died of disuse!!!
