Help on mounting new TV please

I am in the middle of a replacement project on my motorhome. I have removed the old CRT set and am ready to install new 32" flat TV. Removal work all done and now deciding on mounting of new tv. Need to make decision quickly. Trying to decide whether to fix mount tv directly on a wood panel inside the opening, or to place on a mounting bracke in the opening. Part of me says that solid mount, so screen is at same position the old set was is preferable, but that would have the tv mounted at a slight angle (to optimized viewing when sitting) like the old, to accomplish that is easy enough, but I am worried about the mounting holes in the set, they are clearly designed for sheer strength, but I wonder the angle would put excess stress on the mounting holes, on the other hand since it is ok to mount them on tilt mounts I guess that is not an issue. If I put the tv on a full motion mount, I fear that the tv would move about when driving. I suppose I could put strap on to restrain.

Curious what others have done here. Pictures if available would help greatly too.

We use Velcro to strap the TV to the board while traveling. It has done well for the past 4 years and 20,000 miles.

The mount allows us to position the tv where we want the viewing angle.






The mount is fastened to a 2x4 frame behind the black board.






The space behind the bottom hinged door is where our DVR and all the Satellite antenna connections are.

I mounted it to a board that I mounted in the opening...the screen is on the outside of the original hole.

I used some aluminum angle from Lowes / HD and mounted the TV on a side cabinet. We didn't like craning our necks to see it while sitting on the couch.



You can see where I took the side cabinet door and moved it to the front. Made a DVD shelf behind the door and mounted the TV to the side cabinet across from the couch.

I chose to remove the entire headbanger completely. I measured and then had a custom fixed mount welded and painted to install between the two cabinets on each side where the TV will be located. Bolted the TV to the mount and then had my carpenter use part of the removed cabinet and make a shadow cover for the bottom to hide all of the wires and cables plus he trimmed out the edges and the ceiling where the old cabinet left permanent impressions.

It's been there almost 7 years now and has survived three trips to Alaska and back.

I used a fully articulating mount and have had no problems...I had planned on using a bungie to suck it into the mounting cavity while travelling but it's turned out to be unnecessary.

I made my own mount out of aluminum stock. The coach was built with a heavy aluminum framing holding the original CRT TV in place which made for a solid mounting to tap into. Five years and 30,000 miles it's still where I mounted it.

I am in the process of changing mine out right now. I have built a "picture frame" that the new TV sets inside of. Mounting in with straps across the TV and attached to the top and bottom of the picture frame. I am hinging it at the top so when opened up I will have extra storage. I intend to document with pictures as I progress.

i am going to use a folding ceiling mount so i can use the cabinet thats there. it folds to ceiling when not used and folds down and tilts side to side and ip and down

We mounted ours the same way. I used two 1" velcro straps, one on each side of the TV. They are attached to the mounting board by screws. Each strap overlaps the other end of the strap by 16".

Ah,, TRODE, you were asking about this two years ago on the National forum.. I know, we sometimes take a long time to decide. Part of that discussion was to take the steel bottom plate from the old mount to use as a back plate to mount the TV to. I think I did this 5 years ago and am very happy with it. It also moves the TV back even with the side cabinets, no more head and shouder bagging

We installed our TV by gluing and screwing a 3/4" plywood base with 5/16" machine screws (pic #1). Then fabricated the angle tv mount which allows tv the slide in/out (pic #2 and #3) and a single swivel tv mount from Walmart. Installed sound bar mounts (pic #4). The final assembly is shown on (pic #5).

This approach allows the tv to move in/out for assembly and wiring.
The sound bar fills the space below the tv and provides good sound quality. Solid as a rock going down the road and while watching the tv.
