Help please, valuing and selling class A

We bought a 2005 Monaco Knight 38 PDQ last year in Oct. We determined the price asked was reasonable based on comparisons with similar models on RV trader. There were several nationally and ours was midpoint.

Now we would like to sell and have set the price based on two facts. First, our previous selling dealer offered to consign it for us nd their agreement comprised of a fixed price to us when sold. They would make their profit asking what they felt they could get.

Second fact again comparisons with RV Trader similar models. not as many out there but for the three months we've been selling, we've been competetive. We have the year long ad in RVT and lots of good pictures. We've responded to everyone and had one couple come drive in it.

What keeps coming up is the difference between NADA with accessories and market. We asked a local RV dealer to consign it and he did the same thing,i.e. quoted NADA and offered way low. What gives?

Now I have another interested party who wants a complete list of accessories so he can come up with a nada value. It's been awhile since I did this myself but even when I did it before the resulting retail was not as high as market.

we re losing money selling. [mod edit]

Dealers don't count options in their pricing. Also, when using NADA you have to remember that they list a whole bunch of things as options that may have been standard and already in the base price. So if your rig came with a 10 gallon WH you don't add for that, but if it came standard with a 6 gallon and you have a 10 then you would add for that. If it came with 3 slides you don't add anything for them. To figure the price you pretty much have to have the original invoice and option list.

I believe NADA values in general are above real sale prices.
Dealers report sales and generally show and report their ask $ with unreasonably high trade in $.
That keeps NADA values unrealistically high and favors the dealers as they can justify higher prices.
I figure NADA is somewhere around 10% high but thats a ball park not absolute.
Many private ask $ are below NADA retail and likely get negotiated down to complete the deal.
Many options don't necessarily ad value if its something the buyer isn't interested in or is std or already available on competing units.

Just because you find advertised prices doesn't mean that they are selling for that

OP is in a difficult position ... no one likes to lose money but as we know, that's the RV deal for most owners. Trying to set a price can be a challenge especially when considering location, time of the year and other factors. The following list of sold Monaco RVs might help the OP set a market place price on what looks to be a fine 2005 model. I'd also suggest you look at similar age and sold Newmar models in trying to establish a selling price.

You are being redirected...

Best of luck in your sell.

Ran into the same thing in selling my 02 Diplomat put it on consignment we settled on a price based on NADA they told me what they would ask and what they would settle for. Looked up my unit and guess what they had priced it $10,000 higher and no other unit even came close to that figure. Finally sold it to a person in our campground for the less than NADA price we had agreed on. Good luck it only takes one
