Help -- RV Awning Won't Retract
Hi everyone, This morning we open the awning ( Eclipse power Carefree of Colorado) of our RV ( Simba by Monaco 2008). When we push the extend button, the awning open very fast, much faster that we never say. Too fast.
After that, we are unable to retrack the awning. We check the motor of the awning, and it is working, but seems to run for nothing. The awning won,t retrack. We are stuck ,
do you thing that it can be cause by one cylinder or may be it is something we are not doing well.
Thanks in advance

Your carefree awning could have a generic problem with the hub between the motor and the aluminum roller. What has happened to others is the the hub is just slid on to the motor shaft with a single flat side. With use the hub will round out and you lose the drive to the awning roll. Check with Carefree as they have a new design hub and motor assembly. Depending on age of your awning and your smooth talking they might cover the repair.
As a quick fix the hub on the other end of the awning is identical and with a little mechanics you could swap them.
Good luck

No I don't. I think it would take at least 3 people and a ladder. A person on each end and one in the middle to roll it up. The people on the ends need to help the arms fold. Now you have the problem of keeping it in place. Lots of wire, rope, and tie wraps..
I would just check the end with the motor first and like I said youe might be able to swap them.

There is not anything in the owners manual that I could see on how to retract it manually. Here is a link to their web site to find a dealer near you that may be able to assist. Or you could contact your Coach manufacture hot line or the dealer you bought it from if you bought it recently. If you are in a camp ground check and see if they have a listing for a mobile RV tech. Good luck.

Had the same problem, the hub on the drive end stripped, I believe a replacement was around $200, swap hub from other end, 30 min job.

Same thing happened to mine and this is the same failure I had. I looked at how to manually retract the awning. I realized that even if I got it back in I would face a bigger challenge. How do you keep it closed? The failed drive gear also holds the awning closed. Personally, I thought the design was flawed because of this.
Best of luck,

The awning can be pushed back and retained with a pair of large cable straps. It is much easier with two people but I managed it alone.
On mine, I repaired the connector hub by drilling two small holes in line with the failed flat and tapped them for little allen keys. This was described in another thread in the irv2 forums.
Have a nice day - Darrel

For a pdf of the Service Manual for your awning Google: https://www.google.com/#q=carefree+eclipse+service+manual+downloaddnloa, find, and download, the "Service Manual" for your specific model of Carefree Eclipse awning.
That Service Manual will have a "troubleshooting" section.
With that information you, (or a tech in the service dept of any decent dealer), should be able to find the problem, order any necessary parts and repair your awning.
Since my awning is an 18 year old reliable "manually operated" Carefree Fiesta, I don't know how to retract a motorized Carefree Eclipse power awning by hand.
Sorry.
