Help with purchasing new
Hello veterans RVers. I've been camping my whole life and when I got married we decided we wanted to go to a motorhome rather than a trailer since we have twin 9 year olds and who knows for the future. To find anything good out there it seemed better just to buy new. Here is what we are looking at.
Forrest River Georgetown 364TS or the Georgetown 36B5.
MSRP on these are right around the $150,000 mark. Advertised around $99,000. Anyone know how much wiggle room I can negotiate without offending them? Ive heard 20%. Is that true?

Rule of thumb is about 29-30% off MSRP. If you are looking at 150k and they are asking 99k sounds like they are already discounting it pretty much. I wouldn't think there would be much wiggle room but if there is it won't be much.

Personally I wouldn't take anything under 25% off of MSRP. You will probably end up somewhere between 25-30. 35% is doable but there are a lot of factors that have to work in your favorsuch as how long it's been sitting, time of year, model year etc.

Ok so asking 99 on an msrp of 150 is pretty good then? Not much for negotiating?

I've never been concerned about offending a salesperson. Their job is to sell whatever it is they're selling, and they generally have no emotional attachment. It's when dealing with a private party sale that the emotional attachment can really come into play, and getting offended by a low ball offer is much more of a possibility in my opinion. If you're a serious buyer offer them $90k and see what they come back with. If they don't counter and you walk out the door they will either stop you and come back with a counter, or let you go, and then you at least know they aren't going to budge on the price if they let you walk. I've learned over the years that when you start politely heading towards the door they usually suddenly come back with a better offer as long as you've been nice and not a jerk about things.

Always negotiate. And don't be afraid of offending a salesperson at a dealership. It's not like you're negotiating with a private seller on a desirable or difficult to find model.
First, when you say that the MSRP is "right around the $150,000 mark," do you know the exact MSRP? Unlike cars, it's sometimes difficult to determine the exact dealer "invoice" on motorhomes but the dealer has to give you the exact MSRP on the unit which will include all the options that are included. Like cars, however, the dealer will have a variety of "holdbacks" so, as everybody is saying, that $99,000 figure should still give you some room to do a little negotiation. In other words, I personally wouldn't just offer the dealer what they're asking and call it a day.
It sounds as if you are interested in a unit the dealer has on the lot, correct? If so, you will always have a better chance of negotiating a good deal as opposed to having the dealer factory order one or doing a dealer exchange.
I'd be interested in the exact MSRP on the unit you're describing. We then can see the exact percentage off that the $99,000 represents. It seems good right now but are you sure that the $150,000 is the exact MSRP or is it just a figure the salesperson is telling you without showing you any documentation?

Our new winnebago sticker was just about exactly what yours is. We got them down to $104k. So I would say $99k is pretty good. Good luck.

Hey thank you. We looked at the Winnebago. They said they couldn't come close to the same price as the Georgetown. Thanks for the input though

Be sure the MSRP is the actual MSRP. Not a number with dealer add-on charges and items. These are very high margin items for the dealer.

33-37% off of MSRP is about as good as it gets.
