HELP. Won't start

Parked, stayed went to leave and coach will not start. Jacks up, slides in, all normal stuff done but no power to starter. Almost as if some "safety" is on and preventing power to starter. Battery's check good, full charge. Issue is not lack of power its power not getting to the bender to start.

This is a tiffin bus, 2004,400isl freightliner chassis

How about dashboard? Do the gauges and lights come on.

Lets confirm you have power go the ignition switch, and the ignition switch is good. Then we can proceed to the start circuit.

Also try activating the chassis battery disconnect switch to clean the contacts.

After that, use a test light to see if you get power to the start relay.

Is there any noise at all when in start position?

Dan

Have power to starter,( on heavy cables)all dash lights function, yes, in neutral. Issue seems to be no start power on wire to starter solenoid. As if something is saying, don't start.

I have checked all the relay in coach under dash labeled ignition and all fuses labeled ign anything all seems good and relays click when key is turned as though they are functioning. No symptoms of this, just no start, everything else functions and seems normal. Really strange. This is why I question a "safety" issue as a potential, what components have ignition lockout on these coaches?

Do you have an emergency stop switch in the engine compartment?

My couch has a safety for jacks down.Try cycling your jacks again. Not sure where your relay would be for jacks but try taping it while moving jacks.

Alarm system? alarm system, if not de-activated, can cause that. Although, if power is getting to the solenoid then, i think that is not the problem. Starter may have given out. I had solenoid issues and a month after replacing, the starter crapped out. Maybe Starter.

Lights on the shifter? Has someone tried to "jump" the starter from underneath? Use caution on the second one if you have never done this.

Had a similar situation with my '03 Bus. All dash lights came on, relays clicked, but nothing from the starter. Roadside mechanic "bumped" one of the starter solenoids and it started. Took it to the shop, and could never get it to do it again. BTW, there are two starter solenoids, one on the starter and one on the ds frame rail. Subsequent research on forums indicated that the transmission computer and engine computer might not be communicating. With ignition on, it was suggested to cycle the transmission selector through drive, neutral, reverse several times then try to start. It cost me almost $600 for flat rate roadside service to get going again, and haven't had a recurrence.

Check the ignition switch. Looking at the schematic for my XC chassis, there should be 3 wires on the back of the ignition switch.
12v-in, that should be good because your dash indicators work in the run position.

The pink wire is the starter control wire, see if it gets 12V when in start position.
That pink wire goes to a "Starter Lockout" relay (R2-3), which prevents the starter from engaging if the engine is running. Staying pink, the next thing in the circuit is a Neutral lockout relay (R7).

So either of these relays being half plugged in or bad contacts can keep it from starting. The pink finally goes to the starter solenoid from what I can tell.

Hope this helps.

Dan
