I have been told me numerous dealers no matter whet your tires look like they should be replaced every 3 to 5 years.

I had the same thing on two of my tires. Took to tire shop and was told if it was not deep it would be fine! ( Michelin tires, they crack on the side and would be fine)
I ran on it about 2000 more miles. Just did not feel right about it. Two new tires and i sleep better @ night. Had a blow out on the side of a tire NO CRACKS. So who knows?
Be safe and go get a new tire and a hard look at the rest of time. Capt Dan

I have replaced tires that have much smaller cracks/checking than that. Listen to the comments here. Same about the comments on the tire shine stuff.

Better safe than sorry, don't second guess a fatal accident. Replace tires.

Very wise to replace both front tires. Now, just treat them with soap and water. I never use anything on my tires but soap and water plus a cover if they will set over a week where sun can get at them. I'm not aware of any tire manufacturer that recommends any other treatment. I've heard the best treatment is for them to be rolling down the road. I doubt that those who use spray on products do anything to the inner tires on the drive axle or the inner sides of the other tires. Do those sides crack and deteriorate?? Mine don't.

Is the price of a tire worth the gamble to several thousand dollars in damage or even worse?

lwmcguire:; I agree wholeheartedly about 303 Protectant. Once sold that product and others as a sideline! Never got one complaint. Good stuff.

There are tire replacement people that will come out and install new tires and haul away the old ones, they service big rigs on the road. I had that on tires when I pulled off the covers, made the call....

Why is dull better than shiny? is it because shiny indicates the use of a product which will speed up tire aging or because there is some benefit to the tire having a non shiny surface?

Armor All tends to leech polymers out of whatever it's applied to. If used on a dashboard, it will become brittle. I think there are decent tire products out there, but I'd not use Armor All.

The Toyo tires I had mounted recently, they applied something to them, but since then I just keep them covered when not in use.

Nope, that might not make it to the tire shop. Good luck getting it replaced. Try a Goodyear Endurance tire.
