Hot water problems that are stranger than fiction

We have a 1992 38' American Eagle.

When we turn the water heater on it heats just fine, and we have scalding hot water in the Kitchen Sink and in the Bathroom Sink.

With the water on "shore water" only the water in the shower will almost never get hot unless you turn on the pump and have water in the fresh water tank.

This was not always the case, it has just begun needing the pump and fresh water tank to get hot water to the shower, the other issue is that the hot water section of the water valve is only 1/8 of a turn, any more than that results in cold showers.

Is there a schematic available on the plumbing that might reveal where there could be a blockage of the hot water line to the shower.

Thanks for your help

Have you by chance used your outdoor shower recently? Sometimes if it's left on at the handles, but shut off at the shower head, it can cause an issue like this.

X2 or possibly a bypass valve.

outdoor shower

I checked the outdoor shower and it is off at the handles.

I have no idea where a bypass valve would be located.

The interesting issue is this, for the last year, the hot water has worked on shore water, while the pressure is lower on shore water the hot water worked in the shower no matter what. Turning the pump on did increase the water pressure but the hot water was available in the shower either way, over the last couple of months, it has become less and less available in the shower unless the water pump was on and it has become unavailable without the pump on in the shower regardless.

There is still hot water in either sink pump or not but the shower remains the same.

Thanks for the thoughts. What would a bypass valve be bypassing, the water heater?

Thanks,

Steve

Sounds like your shower valve is plugged up on the hot side, requiring the added pressure! Do you have separate valves, or the one for both?
I would turn off your water supply, and open a low point drain, to relieve the pressure, and take your valve apart, and see what is blocking the hot flow!
JMHO! Rail!

If you have a shower valve with one handle the seals inside are leaking.
