House Batteries.

My local RV service center said my house battery is shot. It is a 12 volt battery. He says to install 2 - 6 volt batteries because they supply more power than 1 - 12 volt. Would a Marine deep cycle be just as good? Pros and cons??

No, it is not a true deep cycle battery like the 6 volt batteries. Your RV service center is correct, 2 - 6 volt deep cycle batteries will provide more amp hours of power than any 12 volt. It's all about the battery amp hour rating under load.

He is giving you correct information. The 12volt deep cycle battery will not supply near the anp hours of the two 6 volt. If you have the space to accommodate 2 batteries and are ok with the extra initial expence that would be the way to go

Duh! Of course two batteries have more power than one! Comparing 2x 6v to a single 12v is pointless. Two Group 27 12v's provide about the same power as 2 6v golf car batteries, somewhere between 210 and 230 amp-hours. That's true whether the 12v are Marine/RV type or true deep 12v cycles like a Trojan 27TMX.

The GC2 6v golf car batteries are superior in reliability and longevity to any Marine/RV battery and that's a solid reason for choosing them, but amp-hours are amp-hours.

That's probably what you have now is a 12 v marine combo start battery.

2 - 6V GCs best by far...it's more than just AH.
GCs are built for that duty and will last longer and reasonable price at Sams Club or Costco
