House Battery grey telephone wire ???

Hello:

I have a 2006 Fleetwood Excursion 39L motorhome.

I took the house batteries out of the RV and brought them home for the winter and noticed that there is a grey telephone type cable that has broken off.

I think it might be some sort of a sensor or possibly a fuse.

I have attached a picture that I found of the internet that has the same type of wire. Look above the second battery from the right and you can see the grey wire leading to the battery positive connection.

So my questions are:

1. What does this grey telephone type cable do?

2. Can it be replaced and if so where I obtain one. (I live in Canada but would imagine I have to order it from the USA)

Appreciate your help on this matter. Just trying to get it all back into perfect running condition.

Thanks kindly

Bill Kemp

Temperature sensor for the Charger. It monitors the battery temp to make sure it does not charge too hard if they are hot.

You need the proper temp sender for your exact charger.

It's a BTS , battery temp sensor. If damaged it can overcharge or undercharge your batteries .
Unplug it from the inverter/charger and the default temp is 77 degrees F. A safe temp for most conditions.

They cost around $25. Look up for magnum or Xantrex, depending on brand of inverter/charger.

Thanks folks

I really appreciate your help on this

I will go to the RV and find out what the brand of inverter is on it.

Then I will hunt down the part.

I'll keep you posted

Thanks

Bill

Been there, done that; and ruined house batteries before I realized what was happening. Mine wasn't even installed correctly, it was on top of battery cables instead of underneath against the battery.
IMO it should be on the side of the battery case to get a more accurate temperature.

You most likely have a Xantrex or Magnum Inverter. Here is the BTS from both.

Thanks guys. The RV is parked an hour from my home by the I laws house. Next time I we visit them I will check on the exact model of inverter and order a new one.

I have not followed the TS wire to see where it feeds into the inverter compartment but I would hope that it is easy to get at and replace.

I am pretty sure mine is a Xantex inverter/charger but cannot recall what model.

Once gain I appreciate your help

Bill

The inverter/charger will be very close by. Short cables for the inverter is very important.

Great links Don!

Hello guys:

I went to the RV today and took some pictures of the inverter.

It is in fact a Xantex Freedom 458.

Here are some pictures of the inverter and the control panels.

Just need to know the exact TCS to purchase now.

Thanks for your help

Bill

Looking at your picture, I see a black phone type wire plugged into the TSC.

In your description you said it was a gray phone type wire.

Makes me wonder ?

Thanks for noticing that.

I will look in the battery compartment to see what color the wire is that leads to the house battery compartment when I am up there the next time.

I could be wrong about the color.

I will also pull the control panel off and see what color the wire is.

This way I can make sure the correct wire gets plugged into the correct slot.

I don't think they were reversed but you never know. I rarely use the inverter and mostly charge the batteries with the generator.

Bill

Plus it sure would be nice to get a better understanding of the control panel so I completely understand how things work.
