House Battery Replacement Installation Issue
Looking to replace my house batteries. Original batteries have only studs while all the batteries I find have both studs and posts. The posts are in the way of my battery cables. Can I simply cut them off with a hacksaw leaving about 1/4 inch?

I suppose you could but why go through the hassle. Lot of battery options out there that just have studs. Just replaced all 6 of mine with studs and had no problem finding them. Best on whatever you decide.

Msmallfield, can you post a picture of what you're dealing with? Since battery cables are flexible, I just can't imagine not being able to work them around the posts.
I would not cut the posts off the battery. Probably wouldn't hurt the battery but I would imagine that doing it would nix any warranty the battery has.

Agree
My house is 8 - 6V GCs so plenty of cables but posts were avoidable.

Yes you can. But your warranty will be toast.

I think you can, and I have in the distant past with no issues.
Just curious which manufacturer's batteries are you looking at that??

Worst case scenario..... if you really have issues with the cables, but have enough height, you could add battery clamps with studs. This would be a last resort to me.

BEFORE removing any cables - TAKE A PICTURE OF THE CABLE ROUTING/CONNECTIONS!
My last replacement 12V batteries have both stud and posts. I had to re-curve a couple of the connection cables to reach the studs without blocking cell refill caps and/or have enough cable length.

Don't modify the batteries in any way - you will have NO warranty.
In other words DON'T cut the posts off.
Find a different vendor.
