Hi,
After a change of the house batteries (that were old and not holding a charge) the energy management system display is no longer working and there is no power to the house when plugged into shore or trying to run on batteries alone. Chasis sytem works fine - absolutely no power to house. I rechecked all connections on batteries. The inverter appears to be working and the inverter display works and shows batteries are charged. Main fuses have been checked and appear fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I always go back to where I was working. I'm guessing you have a solenoid or relay that got bumped while lifting batteries may have blown a fuse or fuseable link/wire. I would pick one system (like the 12V chassis/house system). Disconnect the other (120VAC). Then get out the volt meter and follow 12V through. Some checks along the way - check holding the the Aux switch to jumper house to chassis batteries (expect no change in fault indications). Check your battery disconnect switch.

Any chance the cutoff switch is still off? A large cutoff switch when turned on should have battery voltage across it. I can e-mail you a PDF of the EMS systems if you wish. In any case start with a voltmeter and using the chassis as ground start measuring voltages inside the battery compartment. Do not use any battery negative post for this test. Batteries can be re-installed incorrectly quite easily with all of the wiring involved. Also small cables can be dropped and not reconnected.

we have a 2007 HR Augusta B+ and nothing will work from the house batteries, but everything work when hooked to shore power. Did you find the answer to your problem? Could anything you discover relate to our problem? We have chcecked all of the fuses and they are good. The switch is on, but absolutely nothing will work unless we plug into 120.

I had all my 12v go out on me once. I found a small button in the under the hood fuse panel circuit board that was a circuit breaker (CB5). I pushed the button and it reset. Got my 12v back and havent had any problems since. The fuse box had the dissconnect solenoids in it too.

Thanks for the replys. It was the solenoid in the battery compartment. Husband took it out and checked it and put it back in and everything started working. don't know why he didnt do anything but take a look at it and it looked ok on the inside so he put it back hooked the batteries back up we head it click and everthing worked. Dont know why but we glad it works.

I lost all house power (12v). I have a 2004 Holiday Rambler Ambassador. I was trying to start the 7500 Onan generator but was having trouble getting it started. It was cranking fine then all of sudden it sounded like the battery was going dead. I tried one more time then all the house power failed. I must have blown a fuse somewhere in the system. I do not have any 12 v power. The chassis system seems to be working fine and the 120v system seems to be doing ok. Any suggestions?

Hi Burkholb,
Welcome to iRV2. I do not know HR. However, if you have done no maintenance recently, considering a fuse is a good initial thought. You're going to need a meter. Go to the batteries and see if they are charged. If they are charged trace the VDC until you loose it. You will have found the problem. If the batteries are dead (11.5 VDC or less) you need to charge them before doing an diagnostics.

Generally when people lose 12 VDC to the house, the main culprit is the Battery Cut-off relay which is activated by a "Salesman Switch" aka Battery Cut-Off Switch located up front.

Since they are useless devices, it is smarter to just bypass that relay and be done with it. Unless of course you don't mind getting up in the middle of the night in the pouring rain to fix the problem.

Those relays have a high failure rate and just replacing it won't cure the systemic problem.

When starting our Genny or the PGP levelers we get an occasional "something" and then everything thing goes dead. It turns out there is a "main" breaker that trips. This breaker on our Scepter is in a 18"x18" box in the engine bay, in the top right corner. I remove the two wing nuts and the cover to see the breaker. Unlike a 110v breaker this one is a yellow lever that "swings". In the 6 o'clock position the label says "tripped". I swing it back to the 8 o'clock position and we are back in business.

I did some spark chasing with my meter and found that a Hi-Amp 120v Circuit breaker, located beside the main house disconnect switch, in the battery bay, was bad. After replacement power was restored. However, while I was in the bay I checked the battery fluid in the house batteries and found all them dry. I refilled the batteries with distilled water and they are currently holding power and working properly. I also found out the generator uses the house batteries to start. If you continue to try and start the generator (when they are dry) you can damage the starter on the generator due to the lower power on the batteries. The glow plugs on the generator are also powered by the house batteries until the generator starts. Therefore, with the lower power available it makes the generator hard to start and stresses out the starter motor. I am in the process of changing out the starter motor due to this. Moral of the story is to check the fluid level on the house batteries frequently especially if you have your Rv plugged to shore power most of the time.
