How Do I Avoid Valve Extensions?
It's time to replace me tires, and I want to avoid using valve extenders. I now use the extenders to make room for my TST 507 series flow-through TPMS sensors.
I've looked through the Ascot Supply catalog but am more confused than before I started. I found a section for aluminum wheels, but I don't know if I have 9.7mm (0.382") holes, if I need Dill (whatever that is), and if I need the type with the rubber grommet or without. I can probably get the angles and required lengths from the existing stems + extensions, but don't know about the rest. Then I have to start looking for stems for the steel wheels!
Has anyone replaced their stem / extension combos with just long stems? If so, do you have the source / part numbers? I know mine might be different, but it would be nice to have a working system to compare it to.
Also, is there any reason that the stems for the outside rears need to be turned inward? I know why trucks do it, but there isn't any chance that I'll mount my aluminum wheels on the inside. I plan to have my tire guy point those stems outward, unless there is some reason not to.

I'm assuming you have 22.5 wheels and are talking about the metal stems for them. I always struggled getting air into the outside tire because the stem pointed toward the inside tire through one of the holes in the rim. I went to a tire place and had the metal stems that were pointing inward on the outside tires turned so they point inside the outer rim, not outward but not toward the inside wheel. I can air the tire up much easier this way.

Aren't they just a locknut and then swivel into position and tighten? Then re-air, if required. Funny that someone put them on pointing in the wrong direction!
But, for the OP and his question - I would think whoever is changing your tires should be the ones to get you practical valve stems and the correct length, since they will be responsible for installing them and guaranteeing they'll work.

On my rig the sensors will fit on the normal (short) valve stem.
I have a long air gauge and a long filler on my compressor so I can reach through the outer wheel to the inner wheel. Yep, it's a bit more trouble to put air in the tires, but no worries about a long valve stem doing damage.
I can go months without having to add air, so on those times that I do it's really not that big of an issue.

I use a long air pressure gauge to access the inside rear tire valve. I needed to buy a pressure gauge with a straight head (as opposed to the more common angled head) so that I could stick it straight through the hole in my outside aluminium rim.

You are starting off right by looking for all metal valve stems of the correct length and angle.
I don't know your rims so I can't tell you length and angle. Most tire shops do not carry a wide variety. Large truck tire stores do tend to have a better selection on hand but not always what you need. Meaning you need to order the correct ones and take them with you.
If it's not a huge PITA drive by your tire shop and have them advise you on which valve stems you need. Obviously, explain the purpose in wanting to install the stems. 1) to facilitate the installation of your TPMS sensors and 2) to be able to easily air up with out disjointing your arm. Then you can order the correct ones and take them with you on tire change day.
Please post the part number for the stems and your rim type when you get it figured out. Help the next guy.

How Do I Avoid Valve Extensions?
I installed the Borg Dually valve stem kit and new front stems as well. Also installed Centramatics for balance. Dually kit can be order d from below website.

Pointed in is correct for the rear outer duals since they point correctly for use in the inner position or front axle.

I got tired of valve extension issues. Removed them about a year ago. Had a shop install the longest regular valve stems. Ensuring pointing toward a hole in the outer wheel.
I can readily reach them through the wheel with a long straight air chuck or tire gauge. I have TT500 TPMS. Standard sensors with security collars. Using a length of 1/2" PVC I can readily screw the sensor on/off when needed.

Get a one piece extended valve. I used the dually valves and they work great.

My fronts point out where I can get at them. My outside duals point down (not in or out) where I can also get at them easily. My inner duals point out so I can get at them.
If the tires are rotated, the locknut on the stem get's loosened and the valve is point to the most convenient spot...
I must misunderstand how pointing away from me is more correct than towards me. But, that's okay, maybe my rims are different.

Great minds think alike. I use a 1' piece of 1" heater hose to install/remove TPMS sensors on the inner dual.

I haven't had an issue with the last three coaches from Tiffin. They all had extensions on the inner wheel that came through a hole of the outer wheel, centered and held in place with plastic support. The outer wheels including the steer all point out. It's easy to attach the TPMS with my fingers. In 15 years, not a single problem with this setup. How is mine different from those who are having problems??
