Our 2002 Onan 7.5k had 540hrs on it in 2014 when we purchased coach. Now have around 970 hours. We use it when ever it is needed, some weekends it may run almost non-stop.

time on Onan

I have a 7000 Onan in my 95 Bounder 32E The genset has 2300 and has had a lot a problems. I change the oil every 50 hrs. I have replaced 2 computers, Onan said that I orerate in to hot of an enviroment. Have replaced one mag coil, a shock mount between the fly wheel and the generator, replace 2 bent prush rods. Just got done putting the genset back in the motor home after the rodor in the generator bearing failed and broke the top of the generator.( they call that the Bell). I was lucky the rotor didn't destroy the stator ( the stator is a $2500 idem). I had to replace the carburator because the choke adjustment pod broke. Onan will not sell that small part, you have to buy the carburator $300.00. We live in Palm Springs, CA and use the motorhome top haui our race cars to the tracks at Fontana, Bakerfield, Las Vegas and some time northren Calif.

7.5KW in our 1998 HR Imperial and it just ticked over 3375hrs...still runs great. I'm contemplating adding the remote panel that includes the Volt/Amp meter (all I have now is the start/stop button). Anyone else done that?

13 Onan 10k QD. 640 hours.

Runs great but blows HUGE cloud of smoke on startup. Burns zero oil between yearly changes.

How long do you have to crank before it fires? If more than a few seconds, one of your glow plugs might be dead.

Our Onan 7500 had 400+ hours when we got the coach last year. It has a little over 1200 hours on it now. We'll run it for whole weekends at a time when boondocking or tailgating.

Keep the posts coming everyone. I hope this thread serves to show others that generators should/can be used and high hours don't matter with proper maintenance
