We pay $64 on a 40 foot Conquest SN Super Nova. I think that’s fairly reasonable for living in New Jersey. Because most things here are not reasonable at all.

Yep, its licensed the same as a car!
However if you own a pickup it's now based on vehicle weight and has gotten real expensive. Go figure.
Definitely not complaining on tags.
As for tax, it's one time at purchase at 13% - mine was $14,560.( value of the MH minus trade in plus tax on the extended warranty)

The land of tax you to death
2016 coachmen 29 ft class C in the taxing state of Washington runs us $840 per year based on liberal King County sound transit taxes even though I live south in mostly republican Pierce county. We the voters approved an I976 roll back to $30 tab fees last November yet they still have it tied up in courts as politicians try to block the will of the people. No income tax but everything else is taxed at 10% for sales, highest fuel tax in the nation and they are looking to tax us by the mile driven to come.

Cost of RV License Plates
I paid $991.35 for my plates for 2020. In Indiana, we pay property tax on our vehicles through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles when we renew our plates.

In Louisiana you pay sales tax (usually about 9.5%) When you purchase the motorhome. The renewal for registration is $50 for a two year tag. For me its free as I am a disabled veteran, so tag is permanent and does not expire. Thanks Louisiana.

$500 ONCE to register it with permanent plates in Montana. My Jeep is also permanent and my car will be soon too.
The "free" South has certainly figured out how to gouge the residents with that yearly personal property tax, that's just nutty.

Texas MH tags
My 12k Thor Axis was $134 last October. I am in Montgomery, north of Houston.
I noticed others from Texas posted about $340 +-, they must be heavier rigs?

MH Tag Cost
This is the one expense that surprised me when we made our domicile South Dakota. $397.00 for the 2020 registration. We were originally from NY and the registration on the same RV was about $60.00 every three years, back in 2006

Alpine 36 mentioned his rate in Washington and I think mine is close to the same. 20 years ago when it was value based I heard of some people paying close to $1000. 20 years ago...
There's a reason voters in this state just passed a $30 car tab initiative. Unfortunately, the government is denying the peoples directive and holding it all up in court.

Two years ago I purchased my first class A in Michigan.
And elected to buy a vintage motorhome. Just based on the price of the plates.
Antique plates in Michigan or $30 one time for life.
It has rules about not using your vintage vehicle for daily transportation. Only for vacations weekends holidays and the entire month of August.
Or to and from club events.
But for me that’s perfect because vacation and car club events are the only thing I use a motorhome for
This plan is not for everyone. Because you have to be Mechanical to own a 26-year-old motorhome. But I truly enjoy the challenge of keeping it maintained and reliable
