How often are you adding boiler fluid?

Hi All

Just curious as to how often do you have to add boiler fluid to those that have the hydro heating systems
Seems I go a long time then before I notice I need to add. So carry a gallon with us

Hopefully you have to add very little not very often. The boilers seem to be harder on radiator caps than an auto.That can mess with the recovery back and forth you should see the level raise in tank when hot drop when cold. The heat easily damages/splits the non reinforced hose right near the cap. I replaced with fuel line but needed a splice hose barb to lighter hose to my plastic recovery tank barb.

I’ve had mine 1.5 years, and I’ve added fluid once. It was still within parameters, but a bit on the low side.

In my previously owned 2014 Entegra Anthem equipped with the 450D Aqua Hot I averaged adding a pint a week with no visible leaks.

In my 2021 Newmar DutchStar with the Oasis CH-50 I haven’t added a drop in 18 mos of ownership.

I don’t know how Mr Aqua Hot eats that stuff. I had nothing but problems with Aqua Hot units (2 motorhomes). I think the Newmar has a much smaller circulation system (electric floor heat vs liquid) and is easier to have a leakproof system.

I add a quart every 6 months or so.

Four years with an Oasis and have never added. It just stays at the same level. Well it changes during operation from cold to hot and back, but never loses any fluid.

Going on 10 years with ours and I only added some when the plastic reservoir developed a crack a couple years ago, Before that and after that, nothing.

When we first got our new to us Dutchstar with Oasis, I was adding about a pint every couple of months….then after a time I was adding more…didn’t see any obvious leaks.

Well after less than one year, I saw boiler fluid on the ground after staying overnight. Newmar determined the boiler had separated where the neck (where radiator cap goes)was brazed to the rest of the boiler. Apparently the old style boilers were bronze, and I read were prone to this. Had to have the entire unit replaced (since I live full time in it, couldn’t wait months to try to disassemble, find a welder to repair, and reassemble)
The new unit has the boiler made from stainless steel, so hopefully no more issues.

I had a similar issue. Since new in 2015 mine took maybe a pint or two total in 6 years. This spring we had a puddle of coolant under the coach one morning. The coolant tank had developed a crack. It was ugly...about $4000 to remove the whole unit from the basement & replace tank.

After our initial few weeks of camping and using the AquaHot, I did have to add a pint or two. I think there was likely some expansion with all of the tubing to the remote cozy units. After the this there was no more fluid that I needed to add.

In our 4 years of full timing (several times spent months in sub-freezing temps) I have added fluid only rarely (with one exception noted below)...certainly less than a gallon in total over that time.

About two years into full timing there was major fluid addition required due to an OEM recovery tank hose leak from a hose that was a cheap clear hose (stupid hose to use in a high-temp environment)...the end on the AquaHot became brittle and cracked and made a huge mess about two years ago. I replaced the clear hose with a proper black hi-temp hose (made for this) from Home Depot and have had no more issues.

I had to add about 1/2 gal when we first took ownership of our 2014 Tiffin Allegro Bus with AH 450D. I haven't added any since, about 2 years ago.

3 years with AquaHot, never added a drop. Also do not store anything in that compartment. Saw a couple who put a few pieces of firewood on top of it. The wood had shifted and cracked the tank. The only thing in mine is a spare nozzle taped to the fuel filter.
