HWH Cylinder Rebuild?

Has anyone ever had a HWH hydraulic jack cylinder rebuilt. Just wondering if it can be done. Got a rear 16000# jack moving real slow and wont retract.

I bought a rebuilt from HWH some time ago. You can send yours off for rebuilding or just buy one from them.

Make sure your springs are good first

We had a 1994 Tiffin that none of the four cylinders leaked when we did prepurchase inspection. Once we started using them each one started leaking. I took to a local hydraulic shop in Houston and they rebuild them with new rams as our rams had pits. One was too bad to rebuild so bought new. I think the rebuild was $450 and the new was not much more...maybe $550. The problem with new is they may be slightly different.

Any time my leveling system is extended for more than a few nights I go under and clean the shafts before retracting.

Info on cleaning and change up springs from the manufacturer.

On my 2000, the more I use them, the better they work.

Keep working them and see if it gets better after you spray lube on the shafts, I've used silicone and wd40 at different times. Both seemed to work.

Are you sure it's the cylinder that's bad? If it's not leaking and the springs are good, I think I'd look at the solenoid before rebuilding a jack. If you open the “T” valve on the proper solenoid, does the jack retract manually?

You can go to the HWH factory in Iowa and they will rebuild them and you can spend time in their parking lot while they do it .

You can also buy used from a salvage yard. Much cheaper than new

Found a place that will rebuild it. Actually a couple. will let you know how it turns out. This is the third one I have replaced. The other two I bought new. HWH says they will charge no more than 70% of a new one. 420 dollars. plus probabley 80 for shipping. New one is 640 from stuarts who are excellent dealers For hwh. I understand the rebuilds are usually 100 to 150 locally so I am going to give them a shot. Will post results in a week or so.

Be careful, some of the seals are unique to HWH. Shops will be able to get it apart, but may not be able to get all new seals etc. to properly rebuild it. I know once I had mine apart, I could not get the right seals anywhere, no local shops, nowhere on the internet. I found stuff that was similar, but nothing correct.

Well for a possible savings of $500.00 I am gonna let them try it. They do it all the time and should know what they doing. I am sure that HWH does not make their own seals, so maybe they can find the right ones.
