HWH Hydraulic Powered Slide Creeping

The front passenger slide out in my 06 HR Imperial slowly creeps back in about 6" in roughly the same number of hours. I believe there should be a check valve in the hydraulic lines that should prevent back flow of hydraulic fluid and keep pressure constant, but I have no idea where it might be located.

Anyone know where to look or have any other related suggestions to cure this problem?

the only thing that would let the cylinder retract that much, is either a bad solenoid valve, or check valve. we have had very few problems with room check valves.
if you had a shut off valve to install in the line from the room to the sync cylinder, you can extend the room, shut the valve, and see if the room retracts. if it does not, i would replace the extend solenoid. but only after doing the diagnostics to make sure thats the problem.
the check valves are inexpensive, but a pain to replace.
there is a diagram of the check valve location on the hwh website.
if you can provide me with the pump assembly AP number, i could find a drawing showing this valve. let me know if i can help.

Paul, thanks for the analysis. We will be situated in Las Vegas later today and tomorrow I can plan to find that pump assy number. I think the pump on this unit is under the front steps, does that sound like I am in the right area to you. Not totally familiar with this coach yet.

The other thing you could try is to hold the switch after the slide is closed completely for an additional 15 to 20 seconds for any trash that might be on that valve. Also hold it for the same amount of time when you extend and see if that doesn't help without doing anything other than that. Be sure to check your fluid level as well. And those valves, if they need replaced, are expensive, not inexpensive so be sure to try the holding the switch trick before you go much further.

Had the same issue with my hydraulic slide system. Found the hoses were extremely rotten and leaking in several places. Good news, the hoses are standard hoses that can be fabricated at any hydraulic supply store. Bad news is those hoses are routed in some of the worst locations you can think of. Make sure you have someone who is still flexible and doesn't mind getting dirty. It's about $200 for the hoses.

Chuck at Stuart's Service is a valuable detail source for how to repair. I have purchased replacement solenoid valves and pump assemble in the past from him. He has walked me through trouble shooting steps on the HWH system in the past and I have always be able to do the fix. I am sure he can help.

So I tried Randy's suggestion with great hope, but no joy. Still creeps as it did. Would have been really cool if it had solved the problem.

I still need to crawl underneath and see what I can find, inspect the lines and locate the solenoid block, then decide if I am up to getting filthy or having someone here in Las Vegas take a crack at it.

Sorry that didn't work for you Stuart, it was worth a try anyway. I didn't have any luck with that either but others have mentioned that it worked for them. I bought two of those valves on line and I'm going to have Elite RV and Restoration in Harrisburg Oregon install them next month. I have had to replace most all of my hydraulic hoses because of seaps and leaks. Nice thing is now that their replaced with quality hoses I won't have any problems in the future.

You could try opening the relief valves on they check valves, run the extend and retract feature for a bit to try and flush fluid through the valve. That might be worth trying before replacing any items. I had a slide creeping out when driving and tried various things but ended up having to replace a check valve anyway.

EDIT add; As a temporary measure until I could get the valve replaced, I would open the relief valve, the 1/4" valve, and that would release the pressure and keep the slide in.

Fortunately my problem is the slide creeping in, not out. For now, I just recover the 6" I loose once in the morning and again in the evening.

I still have to find that bank of solenoids. Going to have to crawl underneath which means I have to start the engine to raise the coach to get some maneuvering room and I hate to bother all my RV Park neighbors with my engine. My leveling system compressor (like most of them due to where they were installed on the frame in the dirt and spray) is toast so I loose a lot of my air in a week or so. On the last coach, I installed a 110v compressor in a cargo bay and I will eventually do that again on this one.

Randy, I am really surprised at the issue with your hydraulic lines rotting and leaking. You have a 2007 and I would have expected that on something built in the 90's.

I agree with that too Stuart I thought it was very premature for them to be that bad. Previous owner of my coach had stored inside and it was not rusty underneath at all so I don't know why I got the lucky one with the weak hoses. The guys at Elite RV and Restoration said that Monaco had some bad hoses and I got lucky to get one of the coaches that got some of those bad hoses I guess. Water under the bridge now as they have most all of been replaced. Your solenoids should be located underneath your front step if you lift up that little utility tray you should see all of them.

Randy, any chance you bought your coach from a guy in the Puget Sound area? I was looking at yours or a similar coach two years ago. Don't remember the guys name anymore, but the coach was stored in an airplane hanger at Bremerton Airport. Made him an offer but couldn't close on a deal. Damn nice coach though if it's the same one.

Thanks for noting the location of the solenoids and pump. I will lift out that utility tray this morning and have a look.

Good luck
Dave
My driver side slide would drift from the closed position about 1" or 2". I did the above bleed for the system and it seemed to work then it drifted again. A call to my slide manifacture (equalizer) for more information and was told that sometimes the procedure needs to be done several times. The procedure when done as the instructions say will take a bit of time to do it right.

Don't think it should matter if it is moving from the closed or out position, it is the hydraulic pressure that keeps it put. Air in the system will cause it not to hold.

I also had conflicting information on the correct amount of transmissin fluid that should be in the tank. The fill level sticker on the tank was approximately 2/3 when another said 1" below the top. Equalizer confirmed the 1" below top to be correct.

My slide has not moved from it's intended position since.
