I can't drive 55 (Sammy Hagar)
Like Sammy Hagar said "I can't Drive 55"... All kidding aside I currently have a 2006 Excursion with a 350hp cat C7 motor and it loves about 65 miles an hour and much more and it is just screaming. Bought a new Discovery 40G that has the 380hp Cummins ISL9. My concern/question is, will this engine drive faster than 65 without the feeling like it is going to explode like my cat motor?
I am not a retired full timer that has no place to go in a hurry trying to get the best mpg so please don't lecture me on why would I drive faster than 65. I don't think I would drive 85 through Texas to visit my daughter but don't want to go 65 either.
I guess I will see on Saturday when I pick up the new Discovery.

I understand your need for speed good neighbor, get your weight right and tires inflated for your load before you hit the left lane. Remember you are making a big whole in the wind and MPG's will tank above 62-65

I normally drive with the traffic and don't worry about MPG but just for S&G I decided to keep it below 65 on our trip out west a couple years ago. I did not see a big difference in mpg. That was pulling a Jeep GC, average 8.1 mpg. In 2009 we took a 15K trip to Alaska, I kept meticulous record and during that trip we averaged 8.3.

Based on information from Camp Freightliner the ISL9 sweet spot is 1800- 1900 rpm for power & economy. Your speed will be determined by gear ratio an tire diameter.

You can run 80 MPH in Nevada across I 80. What's the highest in Arizona?

I think your chassis mfg. do a pretty good job of matching weight, gear ratios, wheel size, and engine combo. That's what they do. 65 is very doable. I do get better economy at 62. I know folks that go 70+... but I'm not in a hurry to hit anything with 40,000 lbs of coach, personally.
Highway driving...pulling a Jeep Wrangler 4-dr...62 mph...I've seen 9.5 mpg on the LBCU display after a days driving.

My discovery 40E will easily and quietly motor 70+. I have tried to keep it 65 because as was stated slowing/stopping that beast does not happen in a hurry. And if you do things go flying

OP, notwithstanding the ability of the MH to go 70 mph or more, at what speed do you think it unsafe to drive a vehicle of this size & weight?
