I got hit

Waiting on the insurance adjuster, but someone T-Boned me this morning. Any thoughts on if they will total this? I have never known anyone to make a claim on an RV. 2005 Newmar Kountry Star 3910 DP

Welcome to iRV2

Sorry your first post is about problems .

From your picture the lower slide flange didn't get damaged .
Compartment doors , floor and framing took the hit .

I'm 99% sure this is all repairable , big question is how long will it take.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

IMO- if the frame was not damaged I think that damage is repairable. Expensive yes, but less than the total value. Someone is going to repair that and put it back on the road if not badly damaged inside or other hidden damages.

Some years ago I saw a Class A that had been T-boned at higher speeds by a pickup. The damage included the coach floor, the side wall above the floor and the front of the truck was still "parked" partially inside the RV when I drove by.

Good luck....

Sorry for your troubles! It'll depend on what got hurt and what it will take to fix it. Probably also what kind of insurance coverage you have. Best of luck. Hopefully you're back on the road soon.

Yup, the police report will be of considerable interest in terms of at-fault party and their insurance/lack of insurance.

Let us know what your insurance company does with this one.

Police report has other driver at fault. It does look repairable to me, he definitely knocked the front wheel out of place. The steering wheel is off by about 40 degrees. But cost and time who knows

We previously owned an Independent Insurance agency and as others have stated the hidden damage, should it exist, will dictate if the adjuster attempts to total the vehicle. I would recommend looking at all available comparable coaches for sale to establish a replacement cost estimate which will come in handy if the other driver is determined to be at fault. If you were at fault, the research will be useful in supporting the argument in repairing versus totaling, and setting that value if you have replacement coverage. If your older vehicle is like mine, where carrier's would not offer replacement coverage due to it's age, then the stated value that is on your policy will become the ceiling amount they are willing to put forth for the repair. Last year I was able to use current market value research to talk my insurance carrier's underwriter in approving doubling our stated value, something I hope other owner's are approaching to insure they have adequate coverage should an accident be their fault.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Very sorry to see your damage. Once you get an estimate, check with your state insurance commissioner's office to see if there is a law that if repair cost is over 75% of the vehicle value that it must be totaled - or something similar.

I have made a motorhome damage claim. I ran over a rock in a campground, took a big notch out of a small bay door, cracked a body panel below the belt line, and bent the battery rack within. With paint, it was over $10,000.

My uneducated WAG at your damage, without any major structure damage is around $35,000- $40,000.

To offer encouragement, the quality of my repairs was outstanding. Even the feel of the latch matches the undisturbed bins. I literally cannot tell where the new paint ends, and the old paint begins.

Another consideration is even if repaired, Car-Fax is always going to show that it has been in an accident. That would definitely affect resale value. If insurance is willing to settle near replacement value that might be something to consider.

Looks bad but might be repairable.

I looks like the damage is below the slide which is a plus, that would be a big chunk of change if it got damaged and probably the difference between not totaled.

My dad owned a small RV sales lot in PA years ago.

They would like to take in larger insurance repairs during the winter (off-season in western PA) so that they could keep the great mechanics employed busy when the business was very slow.

Might be something to ask about (repair timing) if the vehicle isn't totaled.

Like cars, RVs are usually totaled if the repair cost is going to be 50 to 70% of the wholesale value (percent depends on the insurance company - unless you have an "agreed value" policy).

Good luck - Jim
