Ice maker

We have a Tiffin Allegro 32sa with a residential fridge. It is a Maytag unit. We are having leaking problems with the tubing that was disconnected when winterized (by the dealer) and then reconnected by us this spring when we de-winterized the RV. We are having problems with leaking tubing - it is leaking at the water inlet solenoid valve that leads to the ice maker. We've tried to reconnect - there is nothing to tighten at that inlet and it leaks when the ice maker "calls" for water. Has anyone else had this kind of problem?

Thanks for any help!! Scott and David

If it's plastic tubing, there should be an internal brass sleeve that the compression fitting tightens against. If the tubing is leaking, it might be cheaper to go to a home improvement store and buy new tubing. Replacement parts for the supply tube from the water line and from the solenoid valve to the ice maker are available. If the supply line to the solenoid valve is leaking, often if you cut off an inch of tubing to get a fresh connection.

If it's only leaking when calling for water, it is likely the outlet from the solenoid, not the inlet side. The outlet uses a compression fitting; a compression nut that compresses a compression ring That compression ring is what actually stops the leak. If yours is leaking, maybe that compression ring unknowingly fell off. Did you see that the compression ring was on the plastic pipe and under the compression nut before you assembled the connection? This connection must be opened to blow out the icemaker line above the solenoid; technique is to NOT assemble the connection after winterization so that the guy doing the de-winterizing notices it and pays attention to this connection not leaking.

If all you had to do was to slide the tube back onto a fitting, with nothing to tighten, then I'd say there is a piece missing. I'd expect there would be SOMEthing there to tighten.
Would you be able to take a picture of the connection and post it here, that might help folks help you diagnose the issue.

There is much info using Google: "compression fitting on plastic tubing" images and video show the brass insert on plastic tubing and also parts needed to make a tight connection. As others have said, I think a part fell off or was left off when reconnecting. Also, plastic or brass compression fittings can get worn out or damaged by overtightening. I find it best to use new connections for leak-proof plumbing. In my home refrigerator lines, I left lots of extra tubing so I can cut and get a fresh connection when I've had to take the connections apart.

If you need a hands on explanation, take a pic and stop by your local hardware store and they can show you how and what you need.
