Identify roof coating?

I am buying a older class A. Its a 2003. There is currently some roof coating on the epdm. I think that I will do a roof replacement in about 2 or 3 years. In the meantime, I would like to re-coat the roof to help prevent any potential issues before I get around to the big project. I have no idea what they previously used. Any tips on identifying the type of coating that is currently on so that I know what will stick to it?
