Insurance glass coverage

The wife and I are picking up our new and first class A coach soon, We are getting insurance quotes. Do most ins companys provide full glass coverage?
It will cost us about $ 400.00 more a year for full glass. How much is a windshield for a motorhome? I know it is always a gamble with insurance but would like to keep our cost down.
Need some help from the pro's.

We went with Nationwide thru Good Sam's and one of the reasons I chose them over GMAC insurance (which GS's also sells) was that glass coverage was included with only a $100 deductible.

We have Progressive. Did the dreaded "Winnebago Rust Repair" last fall. Found it while replacing broken drivers side glass. When removing pass. side it broke also. Ins. paid for all glass (repair was $2600). Vanishing deductible was $0. Cost the ins. co. $1300 per side. South Ga. prices.

Some states are full glass states so it may just be something that you will get as a component of your policy. I'd see if that's a possibility. I have not had to deal with insurance companies outside of being full glass state. SC is one of those that are.

Hmmm... "how much is a windshield for a motorhome?" Depends on the motorhome I guess. I just had both halves of my 96 HR Endeavor windshield replaced (yesterday in fact). I paid the $250 Comprehensive deductable on my insurance policy (b-b gun holes are what did me in), insurance picked up the rest.

The glass shop manager told me it would have been about $1500 to replace both sides, labor included, if I was paying myself.

I have 0 deductible glass coverage and both sides would have cost me over $1600. NC for both side and the gasket. I asked, but don't remember what the glass coverage costs, but it was very little compared to the cost of the glass.

When I had my windshield replaced a few years ago my vanishing deductible reappeared. EEK

We have Allstate insurance and I was told that they don't offer glass coverage for mohos (I'm in Texas). I wasn't too happy about that, but apparently the comprehensive coverage will take care of broken windshields, etc. and we will pay the deductible. Not the coverage I wanted, but hopefully we'll never need it. (yeah...right. )

Maybe not in TX, but I have Allstate here in AZ and they covered my windshields.

Some states require full glass coverage for windshields, but most do not. Full (no deductible) glass coverage is normally an extra cost option. But why would yu pay $400 for eliminating the deductible? You have to pay the extra $400 every year, but you only pay the deductible if you have a claim, and then only once per claim. You could have several windows replaced in one claim, with one deductible.

A motorhome windshield costs anywhere from $500-$3000 (installed), depending on whether it is one or two piece, size, shape, tint, etc. I had a half windshield installed 4 years ago for $1200.

I've had two windshield mishaps on motorhomes. First was on driver's half, rock hit & cracked 8" or so instantly, crack evolved w/in minutes (no time for a fix) to in the driver's view. Was quoted $1300 for the half windshield replacement (this was a mastic-set, not gasket). Wound up paying the replacement company direct instead about $800. Moho windshields are a two part deal- 1) buy, crate & ship the glass from mfgr, 2) install locally. So the total price is the combination, and any "shop" that does this for you will do both of the above and then mark up the result to your final bill amount. Had I sat back & allowed the shop to turn-key the job w/subcontractors, I woulda paid the $1300 or something close to it.

Second incident was with my newer one-piece windshield. Rock hit hard & made a 2" diameter spider, no further crack. As soon as I could get a repair outfit to come by, I had it glued. That was about a year ago. I figured replacement would be about $2300 for the full width one piece. In addition to the cost (I think I have $400 deductible on glass for our policy), the risk involved w/shoddy repair comes in to play. In example #1 above, the shop cut my front cap 3M mask while doing replacement & did sloppy mastic finish. The spider is not in the driver's viewport, but it does show (more from inside looking out, which is a distraction), but I'd rather go that route than replacement for money & pain.

yes here in texas they cover the cost for dings and divits to the glass and the actually breakage is a deductible set by you and your insurance company depending on what your deductible is


ask the companies you are looking at for specific state rules and costs

Oh, they WILL cover it...but the regular deductible applies.
