Seems as if in the very tight closed position it no longer had the action allowing it to extend and was at a 90 degree to each other. Tomorrow is the day I will find out as carpet coming off anyway to facilitate installation of granite (just will not be able to final fit granite or install it to front face of cover)

I fixed the problem without having to cut the hole under the coach....I removed the two (as it turned out it was three) screws as someone suggested,
on the plywood face of the cover...I then was able to get a vise grip onto the end of the worm gear drive, I only had to turn it clockwise one turn and it started. I then installed plywood blocks to the drawer so that it could not retract the extra distance beyond where scissor action would work..now it works perfectly.
