Interior Temperature Monitor

After reading about some horror stories of campgrounds losing power, we thought it might be smart to get a temperature monitor for times that we leave the dogs in the RV while running errands and such.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these units? We saw a cellular one that requires a monthly bill and many WiFi options.

Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing your 2005 Alpine has AGS (auto gen start) like my 2005 Diplomat. If not it can be added. You set the AGS to temp start, it will start and run the A/C's when the coach reaches a certain temp.

Don, thanks for the reply! Who is your AGS made by? I will definitely check mine out. I know it will start on a voltage trigger, but I don’t recall seeing a temperature trigger.

I have an AGS and set that to turn the generator on at 85 degrees. I also have one of these as backup:

That way we're covered if the power goes out or the air conditioner just quits.

I looked at that one. Do you like it? I like that I’m not dependent on WiFi for it to work. I don’t like $15 a month.

We use RV Pet Safety app and monitor. It sends text messages if the temperature exceeds a limit you have set or if it is running on its battery because of a power loss. Definitely provides peace of mind. Uses the Verizon network so we have coverage almost everywhere.

Mine had the Magnum Inverter and AGS. Even if you have a Zantrex, it should have the ability to temp start or it can be added. WiFi and cellular systems are useless in a lot of areas where many people camp.

We use the RV version of MarCELL and it's $99 per year:

We do not have a AGS so we only travel as far as we can get back before things heat up. Works great. Text alerts for out of range temp and power lost and restored. We do a lot of dog shows and they are always tripping CB's in the summer and we get the alerts within a minute so we can go check and see of we need to reset a CB or start our generator.

I have 3 speed , whole coach roof fan, that's on a thermostat. I wouldn't help if its closed up completely. But moves a ton of air with a couple windows open. With all open pretty much keep it ambiant to outdoors. It is wonderful addition IMHO. Great back up in the right conditions.

I like the fact that I have some peace of mind that I'm not going to leave my dogs in a hot coach. I don't like the cost either. You can't just turn it on and off either since they charge you $30 to turn it back on once you turn it off.

I didn't know there was an RV version.

On edit: It looks just like mine, I guess they call it an RV version and give you a break on monitoring fees?

When my motorhome is cooled down to our normal thermostat setting, it takes 6-8 hours for it heat up when the power goes off. We're never gone that long. I suppose motorhome construction and geography has a significant impact along with the amount of shade where you're parked. Been doing this for almost 20 years and have never had a problem.

The MarCELL system appears to be the most fail-safe on the market, especially when coupled with AGS.
Still, trusting our dog's life to technology . . . . hmmmm
