Inverter problem

Evening all,

I have a 97 Holiday Rambler Endeavor 35' DP with a trace inverter.
Everything has been working fine until the other day. I have it at my house and was testing the a/c units running off the genset. Everything worked so I shut the generator down. I have it hooked up to a 15 amp circuit.
This afternoon I walked by it and could hear a fast clicking coming from the inverter and no a/c inside the coach. If I start the engine or run the gen all is fine. I have not had it out to a place where I can hook it up to 30 or 50 amps. One other thing, if I flip the inverter breaker it stops but starts right back up when I flip it back on. The little green LED on the inverter is not lit also and as far as I can tell the little pop breaker on it has not tripped.

Check all of your electrical connections starting with where your shore power enters the coach.

If the Trace is an inverter/charger with pass through you are probably hearing the internal transfer relay. (Not THE generator/shorepower relay which is in it's own box and does something completely different).

To me, that sounds typical especially with older units. When on 15 amps, it doesn't seem to take much draw to have the inverter make that clicking-sound. I've seen other threads on this forum and other RV forums where others describe the same clicking sound when on house current.

If you have settings on your inverter for a "power save" or something similar, set it at its lowest setting.

Also, make sure you have as little draw as possible. Check to see that everything is shut off especially high-draw items.

I'm going to guess that once you're on 30 or 50 amps again, the clicking will stop ...or let's hope so. Are you leaving it plugged in to charge the batteries? Maybe put a charger directly to the batteries if you've taken all the steps to prevent the clicking and it doesn't stop.

This is just my opinion. I'm not really an expert on any of this but just passing on experience and what I've seen and heard of others going through.

Thanks for the responses and info guys. I have had it plugged into 15 amp shore power since we got it. This is the first time that it has not kicked in the charger and passed through the a/c to the coach.
I'm going to hit the cutoff switch to the batteries and see if that resets it. If not I will take it out later today and plug it into 30 Amp and see if that does the trick.
