Most inverters are "pass thru" and on shore power there's no need for them to be on.

The house battery switch may also turn off the converter which keeps the batteries charged.

It's not inverting - it is battery charging and producing 12v power for the house so that the batteries don't get run down.

Apparently the charger is working hard and getting warm, causing the thermostat to get the fan on. I'd be looking at why those "almost new" batteries are drawing the charging amps. Could be a weak cell in one or more of them, or low on distilled water (flooded cell type), or corroded connections.

The Progressive Dynamics converters we are familiar with does not do the job of the inverter.

Perhaps the OP has an all-in-one device.

Check the water level in the batteries and also check to see if they are hot. You could have a bad battery , or could be overcharging them. The inverter /converter charges the batteries and runs all the DC loads. When you flip the switch on the dash , it disconnects the batteries and most coach loads.

We have 2 devices, one inverter (12VDC to 120VAC) and a converter (120VAC to 13.5VDC)... the converter turns on and off the fan based on how hard it charging the batteries when we are plugged into shore power or have the gen set running.... the inverter powers certain items in our unit all the time.. so the fan on it cycles based on the load at the time...

So we have a few items only plugged into circuits that are supplied by the inverter.. always draining the 12DC batteries... when the gen set starts or we are on shore power, or driving down the road those batteries are being charged....

I've often read posts that the poster has confused the two devices or have a large common unit and don't understand its actually 2 devices in one large costly box....

Just my thoughts..

jelag...what make/model coach do you have...sounds like an odd arrangement to me...having both an inverter and converter?
