For GPS to function on an iPad, it must be an iPad that has cellular abilities. It does NOT need to be connected to the cellular network, but those are the only iPads that include a GPS chip.

If you're using Co-Pilot on a smartphone, they all have GPS chips embedded in them.

If you have a non-cellular iPad you can add a GPS receiver like this one Dual Electronics-XGPS150A
