Jeep Death Wobble

We experienced the Death Wobble at least 10 times on our 2015 Georgetown while pulling our 2014 Jeep Latitude. We asked what caused it each time we went into a Camper World but no one was aware of what we were talking about. Finally, my spouse found an article in the July 2016 Motorhome issue called "Jeep Cherokee Wobble". It stated that to fix the problem we were to have a MOPAR wiring harness (part no. 68321424AB) installed. This also included a toggle switch mounted in the console between the seats and a 10 AMP fuse under the hood. No one was aware of this fix at the dealership so we ended up contacting Ramon Harris, FCA Customer Service 1-844-533-7928, who assisted to make sure the fix was installed on our Jeep. Ramon is super great and has assisted us every inch of the way to resolve this problem. To date everything has been completed and our first test drive went really well. Our longer trip is coming up in September so that will be the real test.

I have known about Jeep death wobble for years and I have no idea how or what this wiring thing is you speak of and how that can possibly remedy the situation. A Mopar wiring harness with a toggle switch between the seats and this fixes the wobble. Perhaps you can give some more details on this set up and how it really works. Death wobble is a problem with the suspension on the Jeep and sometimes makes no sense as to why it happens.

In the Toad forum you will find several threads disucssing this issue at length. More than you ever want to know, think you should know, speculation to the cause, and the (half baked) Jeep solution......

Don't quote me on this, but i think i read somewhere that most of this has to do with newer Cherokees with electric power steering. I think i also read that the harness and switch is to either enable or disable something in the steering system.

My understanding is the power steering damper effect is disabled when towed in the normal manner. The harness will provide power to the power steering while towing in which you will the benefit of the power steering working all the time. at least that is how I understand it.

This harness fix was meant for the new Jeep Cherokee - not Grand Cherokee - two different vehicles.

Our older Jeep wasn't an issue.

Our Wrangler TJ tows 4 down like a charm. Never been an issue. We use a Falcon 2 tow bar.

Never had an issue in the brief time before the mod was installed by our Jeep dealer, but 4K+ of towing and no problems (and let's keep it that way 😎&#128077.
