We heated a 80 x 30 foot garage in northern IL with a single fairly large space heater. It was one of those infrared types that has no fan, makes no noise, takes a while to heat up the place, but it worked great for keeping it above freezing inside. That was on a 20 amp breaker. That garage was one of a series though, not an end unit, so it only had two ends and roof that were outside walls. I wouldn't dismiss the idea out of hand.
