Kitchen on driver's side

I am in the process i’ve looking for a king aire. to me it makes sense to have the kitchen on the driver side so that when you’re sitting at the dinette you have a view of your picnic table and your own area in the campground. If the dinette was on the other side you’re a few would be of the utilities like the sewer pipe and the power and nothing interesting. But there’s a whole ton of king airs the do not have The 4533 floor plan. I can’t imagine why people wouldn’t want it. Can anybody give me a clue?

Kitchen on driver's side

Our Georgetown has dual front slides with the kitchen on the driver side and yes, that's what we prefer as well. Our friends have a Georgetown with a single slide on the driver side and that's where their dinette is.

They didn't prefer that arrangement but wanted a bunk bed floor plan and that's how it comes. It's not a big deal to them either way because they usually cook and eat outside. They are full time as well.

Perhaps people are simply selecting a floor plan that mostly fits their needs and they live with the rest of it. Or maybe they want to watch their neighbors. [emoji4]

One less-than-optimal "feature" of our floor plan is the outside sitting area. Due to the front passenger slide our sitting area and outside TV is at the rear of the motorhome, not the front. Yeah, I have to drag a lot of picnic tables to the rear... But we live with it.

It's like slanted TVs. Who thought it was a good idea to have to crane your neck around to look at the TV? I dunno but a lot of floor plans have that as well.

Our Tiffin Allegro Bus 37AP has both the kitchen & dining table on the PS. Not sure it would stop us from getting a MH that we otherwise love. We normally are cooking outside if the weather is good, so it wouldn't bother us. And if it is bad weather, then we are all inside anyway.

All three of our MH's have had the kitchen on the PS. We got used to it there. Now when we go onto a coach with it on the DS it seems weird. I suppose it's what you get used to.

When we started looking into getting a motorhome we made a list of things that we liked, wanted and was a must have for us. We had listed several things that we really wanted before we ever stepped foot into the first MH we looked at in person. We were surprised to find so few made with the kitchen on the drivers side and the dinette on the passenger side. We eventually bought a Monaco PAQ for our first camper/MH and 10 years later we still enjoy its layout. The kitchen is on the driver side about 1/3 back from the front with the dinette in a medium size slide out with 6 large windows with screens that open up. Some of our most memorable views have been out of those windows.

in 5 rvs my table has always been on the drivers side. I sit there to eat. I read or watch tv while doing so when I am alone. In almost 20 years of rving I have never been able to see my hookups while seated at the table. If I am going to look out, I am not looking at my outside table, etc I look to see out as far as I can. If on passenger side, the awning would block most of the view.
However, since I use the table as a utility and not a luxury, having it on either side would not be an issue for me.

When we we're shopping RV's and looking at floorplans, we really didn't care about the kitchen or dinette, but we did care about the bed. We did not want the bed on the drivers side since your bedroom windows would be right next to your neighbors camp space, and if weather permits, we like to have the windows open.
As we compared Tiffin and Newmar prior to purchasing, it seemed that most Tiffin's had the bed on the drivers side and that was our main reason for going Newmar.

Not sure what models, years you were looking at, but our Tiffin Allegro Bus has the bed on the PS.

The Winnebago Forza 38W has the dinette and sofa on the passenger side, outside TV centered on the passenger side slide, bunk beds, main TV directly across from the sofa, and TWO full baths. Might be worth a look.

I find it kind of interesting that this is important to some. Don't care ourselves as long as the floorplan in general is to our liking. As someone mentioned above, the awning blocks the distance view when it's deployed anyway. Dining in ours is on the driver's side and provides an unobstructed view of everything that side has to offer. But really, we don't care one way or another since we spend so little time sitting at the dining table.

It does make sense, for comfort, to dine on the PS, though I do remember how easy it was to pass items back and forth from kitchen to outside, when kitchen was next to the door.

To each his own.....if you intend to spend hours eating at the kitchen table and gazing out the window, I guess one on the passenger side might be important. For us, we often eat at our recliner/sofa or outside. Occasionally, we eat at the table and when guests are over will eat at the table. We eat, talk and then move to more comfortable seating. Just don't care what's outside the window.

Mostly Phaeton's, but I believe the buses were also on the DS. This was in 20202

I understand andvagree with the preference... but it is minor in the whole scheme of things.
My guess is mfg do it the opposite for a couple of reasons...
1- Depth of slide and projection into the usable outside patio space. At least on the MH I own and ones I've looked at, the dinette determines the depth required and is larger than what is reqd for the galley slide.
2- basement access- I'm into the bays closest to our entry door / under the pass side slide frequently. Being a shallower slide makes access easier that crawling under the driver side / dinette slide.
Related is the fact that flush floor slides are used for dinette / living space and not for galley areas. They end up lower making basement bay access even more difficulty
3- Weight distribution- my guess is galley slides (with fridge, and sink, counter, etc) are heavier that living areas, and counter balancing weight of batty banks (typically on driver side) is a consideration.

Above just guesses and it would be interesting to hear from a MH designer / mfgr.
