Koni or Bilstein shocks?

I have a 2000 Itasca Horizon 36' diesel pusher with a Freightliner XC chassis and air springs, and what I assume are the original shocks on it. The coach has about 101,000 miles on it. I did a quick and dirty search, and the only references I found were from quite a few years ago.
What is the current pulse on Koni vs. Bilstein shocks?

As a bit of history, I replaced all four airbags (the fronts were a CHORE!) and all six tires since I purchased it. I'm not really happy with the way it rides and handles, so I was thinking about spending yet more money on it for shocks. LOL.

Any first-hand experiences with either brand?

Hi Duane and Peggy,

I suspect that you may have read this: Shock Therapy: RV Shock Absorber Test | MotorHome Magazine already. As stated it is pretty old now.

I used it to help me decide on new shocks about a year ago. I settled on the Bilsteins. I'm very happy with their performance. Very little porpoising over bumps and very good wind gust control. I like the compromise between control and harshness.

Of course, comparing my motorhome to yours is like comparing apples and oranges...but I suspect the relative performance of the shocks might be relevant.

You might consider Koni Adustable SP3 generation for he rear (You don't really feel the ride from the rear drive wheels that much. And having the 5 different settings would allow you to adjust some.) The Steers you do feel coming into the drivers seat. The Koni FSD is well thought of, if available in your size. Or, even the newer EVO 99's (Also an FSD type design, but larger diameter for more robust control.) - again, if available for chassis.

Also for enhancing handling of air ride coaches, the Source Engineering's Comfort Control Check Valves - do allow the coach to 'set' faster. Helpful in back to back S curve driving in the mountain. As well as in rapidly shifting strong cross winds. These air valve checkers, do help.

You might check on the Winnie Owner section, to see what others with your model have found works well for them.

Best of luck to you,
Smitty

Here's another testing article that is pretty old but may provide some help.
