Kwikee steps gone crazy

Here's one to ponder. Was on a trip last year with a friend and his 2000 Georgetown. His steps quit working. Well both of us being the master mechanics that we are thought, we can fit this. Following the troubleshooting guide we determined the motor was not working. We took the motor apart which turned out to be a bad decision. However we managed to reassemble it. tested it again and lo and behold it worked both forward and reverse. We reinstalled the motor and at that point we were so proud of ourselves we decided to have a beer.
Now here's the problem. When you open the door the steps retract and when you close the door the steps extend. Steps are working backwards. We have checked everything we can and no clue what we did. All the connections are plug in type and cant be plugged in backwards. The only place the wires could be reversed is the on / off switch. We never fooled with those wires.
I swear the beer had nothing to do with it.

Hmmm. Some connection inside the motor must have gotten reversed somehow. How much motor disassembly did you do? Guess I’d grab another beer, disassemble and retrace your steps. You’ve got experience now!!

In which position was the arm that controls the steps in when You started and finished?

Simple fix- swap the 2 wires at the motor. Then have another beer.

Unplanned tourist is correct. A dc motor runs one direction with the wires one way and runs opposite when the wires are reversed.

General Information for the IRV2 members.
The motor for the step is a Ford electric window lift motor. Easy to get at
an auto parts store.
If the electronic controls for the step go out, replacement for the control module is $700 plus. A double throw, double pole, monetarily on switch from
an electric parts store will replace the function for under $75.
Did that eight years ago.
Regards,
JimB

I did that with the steps in our old Airstream, only I got a nice looking window switch out of an old late 70's Ford LTD from the wreckers. $5.00 and a bit of wiring and fitting, job done! And it was chrome too!

The controller is about 120, not 700

So what kind of beer was it? I hate these threads where the OP never leaves the answer.

So if Kwikee goes out what kind of beer should we get?

Update. went to see my buddy last weekend armed with all of this advice and of course a six pack.
Swapped the wires on the motor and Lo and Behold steps are working correctly.
If any of you are passing through SC beer is on us.

Not anymore. The replacement motor is better, and not terribly expensive but has to be ordered on line
