OJT works. Find a local campground and wander around, asking people about their RVs and MHs, about what exactly they like and don't like about theirs.

That will guide you towards type, size and layout. Answers to those basic questions will allow you to ask more specific questions from this forum, which is a wonderful source.

Oh, to answer your question, there are a number of reference books, mostly put out by people that get paid to say nice things about a particular make/model. Wander around and learn from those that are living reality.

My advice: After reading, rent a similar unit - or as close to similar as you can find for a weekend. This will do more for you than reading will...

IMO, you are already there (HERE). There is a forum on iRV2.com for just about every coach builder, chassis builder, engine maker, etc., with threads and posts from other RVers, not salesmen, who have real world experience. Granted, many of those posts lean toward the negative, or relate to problems, but isn't that an important part of your learning curve, too?

Lots to read and learn here, its free, and it might save you from buying your worst nightmare.

Good luck and happy shopping.

What do you use at home? We use two toilets, thus the Bath and 1/2. Do you need more than one sleeping area, we do. Do the RV shows, walk through them, sit down. I feel a person will gain better knowledge using hands on compared to "book learnin'", in this case. And talk with other owners for their perspective. Best of Luck.
