Ok,,, so now it's a "QUALITY" DP. All the gasser drivers will probably be surprised to know they can't hear their radios, or hear the wife talk,,,, wait a minute,,,

Length of coach and driveability

The new gassers are much better I’ll agree. But put me blindfolded in ea and I’ll absolutely know the difference. Get me behind the wheel and it’s not even hard. Not to knock gassers , they are great [emoji106] but the engine and suspension differences alone are very noticeable.
Deal breakers ? That depends on the purpose and your tolerances.
But to say there is no difference on level ground , with maybe an expansion joint or two ( there best closest comparison ) well “ I don’t know bout that”

Most of the noise in a DP comes when they have to pay for 5 gallons of oil and 2 fuel filters! You can hear the screaming for miles!!

I've driven both, prefer my DP by a HUGE margin. Plus, the DP has air ride. The DP hauls more weight and hauls the same weight easier. No comparison, imho.

I just sold my 38' gasser on a Workhorse W-22 chasis with a 8.1 liter big V-8. I never understood when people complained about cabin noise. Ours was not a problem at all. Even in the mountains I kept it under 4000 rpm and it wasn't horrible. I switched to a Newmar DP for other reasons. It is quieter, but not that much, because as I said before the gasser was not that loud. One disappointment in the new to me Dutch Star is that the generator is louder than I expected. If for no other reason that it is in the front and the bedroom is in the back. It is quieter the the gas generator but still to loud.

Hmmmmm. I change oil(10 gal @$12.50 per) every 10 to 12,000 miles.filters run about $25 to $35 plus another $20 for fuel filters,$10 for water filter. so "all in" under $200 per year....
That vs 4 oil changes/filters per year (3k miles duration) @ what $50 each?

That is a bi-product of the manufacturer's having to meet a "price point" by not using a "quiet box" around the gen set and not using additional insulation for coach sound proofing overall.

Deal breakers? how about price?. Just for example compare a new 34 to 36 ft. Gasser vs. an equivalent new DP. The DP will cost significantly more. Not to knock either type, but to compare the same length and quality level of each type is like comparing apples to oranges and is an unfair comparison.

To get the post back on topic, you should also look at the Tiffin 33AA red, which is 35' in length. We have about 26K miles on it now, and prefer camping in woodsy cg's like state/local/national parks.

Drives really nice, very mauverable, wife drives as well. Good luck in whichever you choose.

Back to the OP's question, I have a 38' Monaco and get around the CG's and State Parks very well! Been in some very old, eastern St Parks and private CG's and have yet to have a problem! It drives, rides, and handles great!
Your looking at new units, so test drive them! Find the floor plan that makes your DW happy, and the HP that makes you happy! Have fun, enjoy the hunt!
Rail!

After more than 40 years pulling TT's and 5th wheelers we bought our signature coach in 2012. The Dutch Star 3735 is actually about 38'9" including the folded tow bar. While it is the only MH we have owned, I am perfectly happy with its road stability, quiet well insulated cabin and performance of the 400 hp ISL. The Comfort Drive steering is undoubtedly contributing to my behind-the-wheel comfort. No more sore shoulders at the end of the day!
We like to tour and rarely stay in one place for more than 4 or 5 days and it is not difficult to find a camp site. Our combination MH and 4 wheel drive pickup has proven to perfect for us at 43,000 miles.
Good luck on your search!

I'm on my 6th Class A motorhome. IMO what you want is a long wheelbase and a short rear overhang. Mine is a 40 ft Dutch Star with a wheelbase of 276 inches. On a Spartan chassis with IFS, it has excellent directional stability. I don't need any Comfort Steering option NOR any after-market steering stabilizer accessories. I don't need a rocker, BUT I had a friend send me a Ekornes Stressler recliner. from Denmark.
