Leveling without jacks

Hi folks
Our new to us 2005 Itasca Sunova does not have any leveling jacks. Previous owner gave us his 2x10 ramp setup, but its pretty heavy stuff.
Any recomendations on an alternative lighter weight system that you like?

Thanks
Chris

The only motorized RV I had without leveling jacks was a 1999 Fleetwood Tioga (Class C). I made my own ramps that were about 2' long and three 2x10's high (staggered and tapered). At the time, I don't think there were much for alternatives.

Today, I would probably get a couple 10 packs of the "leggo" type blocks that lock together to build up to what was needed if I still had that unit. The problem with most of these commercial blocks is that for big Class A DP tires, the blocks aren't wide enough. But then those units have jacks. But they would probably work on your Sunova.

Chris,
Sometimes "light weight" might not be the way to go. I do have leveling jacks, heck, they're even automatic, if I want them to be. But, based on the many, many campsites we've occupied in the last 20-30 years, we've needed waaaaaaaaay more than those to get us level. So, I carry a small lumber yard with us. Yes, it does add a tad bit of weight. Yes, it's sometimes a bit cumbersome to get things placed so the coach is pre-leveled and STABLE.

But, having that lumber has sure helped over the years. I also have some of those cheap-o leggos that are sold at Camping World and other RV supplies outlets. I've cracked way more than a few of them. My wood, still intact. Your choice.
Scott

Just a note..
with our former coach (that did not have a leveling system) I acquired 4 3' lengths of well used conveyor belting to place under the plastic "lego's" when dealing with gravel, pavement or concrete.
This stopped the gravel from jambing into the underside of the leggo's and on hard surfaces seemed to slow the abrasion of the leggo's from sliding when trying to drive a tire up on them.

We used the "leggo" blocks on our old coach as well with great success

My ole Mirada didn't have levelers. I installed a couple of the self adhesive bubble levels on the drivers wall and instrument panel so I could see them from the drivers seat.

Normally, I could move the MH back or forth or side to side and usually get the MH reasonably level.

On those rare occasions where this didn't work, I carried eight 2x6 pieces of lumber cut to various lengths (12 - 24 inches), I could stack a couple of pieces of 2x6 under the low tires and usually get it to a comfortable level.

The small pieces of wood have multiple purposes. I can use them to chock the wheels, or if I need to jack the MH, I can put them under the jacks. If worst comes to worst, I can throw them in the campfire to stay warm.

Thank you for the feedback. Back when i camped with my parents, Dad had a selection of boards for this very reason. Since this is my first class A I guess I just forgot the K.I.S.S. principle.

Thanks Chris

Ours is smaller at about 14,000 lbs. We do have jacks but there have been a few times where the slope was too great for them to get us level. I've used the plastic stack blocks with some success but in the few times that I did, most have become cracked. Because of this, I wouldn't attempt to use them on a heavier rig.

I made blocks out of 2x8s some 20 something years ago to use with our previous no jacks class A and still carry them to this day. They're still in good shape.

With our Class C we always carried 2 packages of the Yellow Leggo Blocks.
Inexpensive, light weight, easy to store, easy to clean and most import they were adjustable to whatever amount of height you needed.
They can also be set up in steps for easy climbing and come in a neat zipper carrying case.
I also carried 4 of the large yellow blocks (Walmart) for the rear tires just to keep them off the ground if parking for any length of time (storage).
Any wood products are heavy and can split.
Our current Class A has a levelling system, however, I still carry a few of the Leggo Blocks and definitely the 4 large pads for the rear tires.
