Lippert Kwikee electric steps

Howdy All,
I was all set to hit the many lube points on my Kwikee steps, when I actually read the Lippert manual. Reviewing the product that Lippert says to use, [I]Kwiklube spray grease, [I] I found several videos, not all complimentary. What do ya'll use? Is there a good substitute? Am I stuck with the Lippert preferred lube? Thanks for your input and experience.

I use lithium spray grease but bicycle chain lube also does a good job.

I use CRC Power Lube, the same thing Schwintek recommneds for their slides. I tried White Lithium spray but it left too much white residue.

I know you'll all find this hard to believe, but Lippert actually sells a lube that they recommend for the steps. Doesn't seem much different from several other brands of lube except that this contains invisible gold particles. I mean it must be made of gold since it sells for *only* $34.99 a can.

I will admit, though, that since I started using this stuff every couple of months, I haven't had any more step problems. Maybe there's something to it. I just know that I'll pay nearly any price to avoid a repeat of the step problems I've experienced.

I completely rebuilt my Kwikee steps including some welding repair and use 3M Chain Saver lubricant. It's a wax based lubricant made to stick to chains yet repel grit and grime. I order off Amazon. I also use this to lubricate my slides.

I use Chain Wax

T-9 might also be a good choice.

I recommend getting a spray lubricant that has the plastic extension tube. While a bottle that you can drip on to the pivot points will work for some of the many pivot points on the steps the ones under the coach are impossible to reach with a drip on application.

It would be nice if the ones underneath at least had Zirk fittings Those are the ones that need a more robust greaseable bearings.

How do you tell which brand steps you have?

Extend the steps and then crawl under and look for the manufacturer's sticker located near the motor / gearbox. You likely have an LCI (Kwikee) step. The Sticker / Label will look something like the photo below.

I use the CRC lithium grease spray on them. But honestly, I doubt the pivot points on Kwikee steps really care what kind of grease is used on them.

I'm curious about the CRC Power Lube that has been mentioned? The description states it's a good penetrant so that has me back tracking on whether to try it or not. Makes it sound more like WD40 which is something I don't think would be good for this application.

I was looking at this as well. I ended up using “Tri flow” after some posts on various forums. My steps went from “jerking and creaking” to very happy. Took a couple hits and a little time but very happy with the end result.

I was able to find at Ace. Not cheap, but a little goes a long way.

Use what you have in the garage! People get too wound around the axle using all these specialty lubes. The only thing special about them is the price.

I have three lubes I use in my garage. Number one will always be WD40. Please don't tell me how WD40 is not a lube. The second most used is Tri-Flow and is a great bicycle chain lube. It will leave a good oily residue.

The last lube I use and it's rare, is white lithium.

No matter what you use, spray it liberally and then wipe it up with a rag. Like waxing, do it often and you won't have an issue.

I agree Don.

Lubrication is always a hot topic no matter the forum. The "best oil threads" are the worst. Soon as I see one, it's sent to the ignore file!
