Long Slide Topper Cover(s) -- missing connector?

My longest slide (approx 20 ft) has a two piece Carefree cover around the topper (about 10ft each). The middle, where the two covers meet appears to have had some kind of joiner or connector that kept rain from intruding on the gap between the two pieces (at sometime before my ownership). It is missing and all that is left is the remnants of some kind of sealant or tape (like a vertical stripe on the covers on each side of the gap). The gap is perhaps 1/4" or so. I'm wondering if anyone has a similar pair of covers on their long topper? And how would I go about getting one. My repair facility says that Carefree says no such thing ever existed. Perhaps this is something that Monaco fabricated? My instincts tell me that something was covering the gap, and is now missing. Can anyone confirm this? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I'll post a pic after I get the thing back from the shop.

Sounds as if your topper may be a Summit XL (eXtra-Long) model. See page 13 of this Summit installation manual.

Look inside the end of the housing (usually the front end) for a label with the serial number. Then plug that serial number into Carefree's tool (Here's the link). This will tell you the model for each slide topper. From there you can download the manuals, part lists, and the like.

I have called Carefree a couple times about similar things, and received helpful answers.

My guess is that a previous owner jury-rigged something like that. To the best of my knowledge, your dealer is right that Carefree never made a gap-filler like that. Nor is there any need for one. The topper is not intended to keep water out - it's a debris shield only. Rain water also blows or slants in at the ends, so plugging a 1/4" gap in the middle is a waste of effort.

Mark - thanks for the manual. I would agree I seem to have the Summit XL. My installation definitely looks similar to the drawings on p. 13 and 14. I'll have to get the coach back from the shop to get a close look, and grab the serial number, but that will definitely be on my list.

Gary - I agree. It just seems strange to leave the center of the topper exposed to water. I'm probably chasing my tail... I don't even know if it ever had a cover. The first picture I have of the MH, before purchase, doesn't. I still can't help wondering if Monaco fabricated something... I may never know!
