We are looking for our first RV. Family of four. We are looking at a 1999 Four Winds Hurricane with a V10. Only has 16,000 miles and 14 hours on the generator. Priced at $35,000. We typically take weekend trips 4 to 5 hours from home and I like to "keep up with traffic" on the interstate.

Any thoughts on this RV, the price, etc. Your opinions will be greatly appreciated!

mxbeck, welcome to our website and forum. I would recommend you take your time and not let impulse to buy take over before you have done lots of research and talk to those that have a unit you might be intrested in. Sit down and discuss how the uit is to be used and what you will set as a budget. Remember there will be more maintanance on these type vehicles than a car or truck. Good luck & enjoy the hunt.

mxbeck,
Welcome to irv2 I have some answers to your questions on a post directly below yours. It explains what to look for an what to check for peace of mine. "Found it great MH" by Shelly2koi. MH'ing is a great way to go with a family, in the long run it will pay for its self. The Hurricane is a good entry level coach an the Ford V-10 is very reliable. There is another topic on Ford V-10's in "MH-problems an solutions" ford v-10's before 2000, that may help you. Good Luck on your adventure, just don't try to keep up with the traffic to "FAST." Look thur irv2 there is alot of helpful posts for you.---"007"

Welcome!

We are also a family of 4 (plus 2 dogs) and our trips are typically similar to yours - weekends 4-5 hours from home). I don't want to confuse the issue if you're really sold on this camper but.....do you really want a motorhome? A MH is great to travel in but your trips soound like they will be relatively short. And when you get there, you're either stuck there or you tow a car behind the motor home. Now you have 2 drive trains to maintain.

We have rented MHs and love traveling in them but we opted instead to buy a tow vehicle trailer combination because of cost and maintenance issues. We've always looked at it as....if our trips have high amounts of traveling to destinations then motorhome, if most of our time is at the destination or day trips from the destination, then trailer.

Hope this helps.
