Looking at 2000 Newmar Mountain Aire

We are going to look at a MADP 4080 tomorrow.

We have a 1996 Bounder with a single slide and tag axle now.

It has 160,000 kilometres on it. About 100K miles. Cummins 350HP motor. Spartan Chassis. Side radiator.
The wife needs to see the layout for herself.

Thoughts on the coach?

Terry

Terrry,

Good choice! According to RV.org Database that model is rated as a full time unit with 4.5 stars out of 5.

If you haven't already you should post in the Newmar section.

Good luck!

Be careful as pricing is all over the place. First check NADA RV bluebook values. Then do a search on RVTrader.com and RVT.com for the same coach plus or minus a couple of years and rank order by price with lowest first. This will give you a feel for the pricing.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I have looked it over with the wife and decided to list our house and see where that goes. Will check out coaches in AZ while we are there this winter. We have a house there.
No decisions but we have a better idea of what we are looking for now.

Thanks again,

Terry and Pat

Any older Newmar diesel with a Spartan chassis will have or had ball joint problems. The boots will rot away, and unfortunately you can't replace just the boots. Not something that would stop me from buying one, but I would use that in my negotiations if the problem hadn't been addressed.

These are good ones, but a pretty large coach for 350HP and at 40.5ft.
Still not a deal breaker for that kind of money and that's what it's all about, so I'd not want to be putting anymore than $30K in it and less, if you find anything that's gonna be needed. Rest assured it will have some needs and even though you may not see them now.

Are we assuming that all of these older units had an IFS? Our 07 doesn't, so ball joints are NA. There's hardly any difference in the ride and the difference in wheel cut seldom comes into play, so I'm happy not to have it or the extra parts to contend with.
