Looking for a new snowbird site in AZ

This is probably in the wrong place, but I'll start here anyway. We have wintered in SC and FL for the last several years, would now like to broaden our horizons and try something out West. We aren't locked in to any particular location in AZ, just so it's warmer than PA. Wondering if some of you have favorite spots to get me started on my research. We tend to like newer parks, big spaces, nice scenery, full hookups with wifi and cable or satellite. We are over 55 and have a dog. We have a 40 foot Phaeton, but don't tow, so a nearby town large enough to have car rental available would be nice. Doesn't have to have "resort" facilities, but price is not the main consideration. In return I could recommend several great spots between PA and FL that we have stayed at several times. Thanks for reading!

I own a home in Arizona City.... and enjoy the town... but my BIL and sister RV in YUMA in Suni Sands.... they have wintered there for at least 10 years and enjoy the RV park and the people... Yuma seems to be at least 3-5 degrees warmer daily over the temperatures we have in Arizona City....

Plus they have several casinos in the area where they enjoy the inexpensive meals.... plus easy access to the border to walk across and shop....

I suggest you at least look.... best of luck

I often drive past a nice looking park, northwest of Sierra Vista many 10 miles, on the road to Patagonia. Beautiful views.

That sounds interesting. Do you think there are any safety issues being so close to the border?

No more than any other town close to the border! I have lived just across the border in Los Algodones, Mx. the town referred to, rented a house there for four years, and it is a nice town for dental, eye glasses, food, and shopping! I also have many friends here on iRV2 that stay in Yuma/Winterhaven, Ca. in the winter time, and I have also stayed in Sierra Vista, Az. It is very nice, and also close to the border, and at 4000 ft. has much more moderate temps than Yuma! It is close to Tucson, Bisbee, Tombstone, Ft Huachuca! That should keep you busy with your research for awhile! Good luck, and hope you find just the right place to winter in! Rail!

Send a message via ICQ to Ivylog
Go West this winter as it’s going to be colder in most of FL and TX.

We spend part of the winter in Bullhead City, just across the Colorado River from Laughlin, NV. It’s relatively cheap there, but there’s a reason for that. It’s not for everyone, but it deserves a look.

You might want to check out Lake Havasau area. We winter east of Quartzite at a RV park but we are big UTV riders and it's away from a lot of services you might require. I am not impressed Quartszite itself. But each to their own.

Scenery in AZ can be beautiful sunsets and desert cactus that you can see all over the state. The greatest number of parks to choose from are in greater Phoenix area with Mesa in particular and from there you see the Superstition mountains. A few nice parks near Casa Grande. Yuma has quite a few parks but can be a bit windy. Tuscon area not nearly as many parks and a few degrees colder but still a nice city with lots of good scenery. Lake Havasu is nice too with views of the Colorado river. Car rental should be available in all these places except maybe Casa Grande.

Do not come to Lake Havasu City. There is some activity happening every weekend from Nov to May. There is the classic car gathering every Thursday near the Red Onion which was the first bank building of the city. Then there is the lake with great fishing and water sports. You can run up through the Topock Gorge or 20 miles down to the Springs restaurant at the Parker Dam. Then you have to deal with all the good restaurants in town and along the channel where the London Bridge has been reconstructed. Don't forget the off roading and hiking trails. Then you have the boat shows and races along with the art show and weekly flea market. No, Lake Havasu is not the place to be in the winter where it's sunny almost every day with pleasant temps. It is so bad that we bought a home here three years ago and spend six months suffering along with the other residents of the town. I'm sure there are better places to spend the winter, but I haven't had the time t look.

We have stayed in Gold Canyon at Canyon Vistas near Apache Junction for 7 Winters and obviously like it.

A newer park at the edge of the desert, yet a small shopping center very close, and major malls close by. Not the cheapest RV Resort but has all the facilities, many activities and friendly people.
Getting to be a 50/50 mix of park models and RV sites.

Head to Palm Springs area, a little warmer than Arizona, more of a resort feel to the area, closer to LA Beaches, San Diego and the high mountains. And some of the nicest RV resorts in the US.

Lol, that place is awesome.
Never a dull moment.
If casinos are you're thing the new one should be finished early next year.
Even the ride across the lake for $2 is fun and free coupons in the paper
