Loss of shore power

I have a Monaco Dynasty, 1999. I plugged the shore power in and all was well, not sure what blew the 50 breaker in the motorhome, but reset and no power! Any ideas?

Check the breakers on the inverter. I have had them trip a couple of times.

If you were running a couple space heaters, then you could have just been drawing too much current.

Check first the shorepower post breaker, and with your voltmeter verify you've got 240v leg to leg at the post, and 120v each leg to neutral (and ground). If everything okay there, then you will need to check your transfer switch as a possible source of failure.

I would first flip off shorepower, and start your generator to verify at least that half is working correctly. Assuming it is, then take the cover off your transfer switch and measure voltages to confirm shorepower voltages are making it thru the transfer switch.

Perhaps a foolish question, but if it tripped the breaker IN the motor home, it may also have tripped the breaker on the pedestal. Have you checked the OUTSIDE breaker?

I have electric on the downstream side of the 50 Amp breaker in the motorhome but not getting into the coach! Elec present with either shore or gen set. Can you describe the transfer switch? I don't know what that is.

Thanks,
Dave

Znt1186 Where are the breakers on a Magnum inverter? This Magnum is installed with no means of seeing all sides of it.

I have a Xantrex, not a Magnum. Mine has two breakers on the side of the inverter that can be reset. When they trip, usually only one, I lose all 120v power inside the coach. I don't know about the Magnum, but looking at their website, there are resettable breakers on the front of the inverter.

The transfer switch is at the very end of the shore cord and where the genset inputs, as well. Also upstream from the breaker box. It usually consists of two contactors and the NC contacts of these are fed from the shore cord. The genset energizes these relays and closes the NO contacts and as a result, takes priority over the default power source.
With having power on the load side of your 50amp breaker, do you indeed have it across the hot legs in the 240vac range and also from each hot leg to neutral in the range of 120vac?
Just wondering if you might have lost your neutral return and if so, check the pedestal first. Then if you have a removable shore cord with a probable twist loc connector on the coach side, you'll need to check it, while disconnected from the coach and the power on.
Could be that it just needs a twist and the locking ring tightened, as I discovered, most recently.
With the transfer switch, it should be inspected for burnt wires, especially the neutral connections and every terminal checked for tightness.

If you have the shorepower present inside the coach @ your 50a breaker box, then check the breaker(s) on the inverter. Mine is on the ceiling in one of the storage bay, on the driver side in the bay next to the house battery bay.

You may have to crawl in and lay on your back.

I do have 110 on each leg, didn't try 220. All good info, thank you!

Don't delay checking, you may also have the situation where your converter/charger function isn't recharging your house batteries.

If so, don't let your batteries get discharged.
