I'm gonna take it to the Freightliner shop in St Peters MO.
The compressor is belt-driven from serpentine engine acc. belt.

My dad just had the dash ac repaired on his DP. His wasn't very cold either. Took it to the ac shop and the problem ended up being a burnt out electric fan on the dash ac radiator. New fan installed, and now has super cold dash ac. The tech told my dad if he hadn't repaired the problem and continued to use the system, that it eventually would have overheated and blown a leak wherever the weakest point is. Usually a hose. But then all the coolant would have leaked out and the compressor would have run dry and been severely damaged. So he saved himself a potentially very costly repair bill. You may want to look at it sooner rather than later.

Only some of that info is correct
System is protected by pressure switches. So it can't run dry
That's just a tech blowing smoke
Probably worked fine while driving only when you stopped it quit
