One of the RV parks we stayed in for a week had a sign stating NO MACERATOR PUMPS.
According to one of the employees, the macerator pumps tend to blend the waste in to a pulp, which does not settle out properly in the septic tank. Waste solids then make it past the tank into the leach field and clogs the lines.
I have no idea if this is true, but it sounds reasonable.

Interesting. Never heard this but it does sound plausible. Especially in a CG dump station scenario.

I've never seen this...but how would they know what kind of toilet you have? This is one of those unenforceable rules.

Is it possible that the prohibition is directed at use of a Sani-Con system ( Sani-ConŽ | Products | Thetford Corporation) vice a macerator toilet?

The only negative I've heard besides taking up space is it requires 1 gallon of water to flush. If you boondock, thats a lot of water.

As I've learned more about it, it seems like a very efficient system. No doubt about using more water but I think I'd rather deal with that than deal with the management of two black tanks!

We have the same set up and the Tecna macerator is a new concept to us. Ours has two buttons, one for a light flush, one for heavy.
A bit corny, but this is the video I looked at to learn about them. Appears they are common in Marine and house basements because they can pump up. Some of the MH we looked at had both toilets as macerator, so the tank must have been inbetween somewhere.

Hey Brad,
That was a great video! It shows how the macerator works in a way that was easy to understand. From the research I've done it looks as though the macerator toilets have been around for a long time. Many seem to like it because if functions more like their home toilets. And again, only one black tank on a bath and half coach!

We have one of each. I love the macerator for the reasons already stated. That said, I'm trying to go 4 days right now without dumping so the regular toilet is getting more use in an effort to conserve both fresh water and black tank capacity.
