Mail options for extended RV trip
Hi, we are planning our first long RV trip out west, and plan to be traveling for 4 months, to numerous destinations. What have others done regarding mail service?

Neighbor? Give them some prepaid mailers. Call them and give them a post office you will be near. My neighbor sorted and only sent bills. You can also do what most do. Get all your bills sent electronically. Then just give a neighbor a big box to drop all your junk main in.

We did a 3mo trip so we prepaid all our bills for 3mo. So we didn't have to worry about it... And we had a friend mail us our mail every 10 days or so...

I've set all but one bill up for auto pay so very little mail. Set up a temp box at a mail place and send all mail to it using a temp address change.

We have tried standard forwarding, a neighbor collecting and forwarding and premium forwarding. By far the premium forwarding is the way to go. You can change the address online and you get tracking numbers.

We use Americas Mailbox service with online option.
Post office forwards all mail to the service. We can view recieved mail online. Select option to keep, shred, throw away, open and scan all for online viewing. As desired, kept mail can be forwarded to wherever you currently are. With the online viewing we seldom have the need to be firwarded to us.
We typically travel a couple few months at a time, for half the year or more.

Set everything on auto pay. I get meds from the VA and my son forwards them to a designated family member along my route.

If you go to the USPS website you can get a daily email with scans of the front of all the mail being delivered that day. Look up USPS Informed Delivery. We use that and our son who collects the mail for us (and opens what needs to be opened). We’ve been doing this since June ‘17 and it’s working for us.

We have a PO box and they hold all mail for us automatically when the box gets full. I think the PO will hold mail going to your house if you ask them to. But we do not have a mail box at our S&B so I'm not sure of that. All utilities seem to have a website where you can view your bills and statements and most businesses will send you a bill via E-mail. You can pay anything with on-line bill pay from your bank.
If we need to order anything, we have it shipped to whatever campground we will be at or to general delivery if the CG will not accept mail.

We have auto pay on all our bills and have whatever mail we get sent to a relatives house using temporary change of address feature. If there is anything of importance, we have them open the envelope and see if it warrants our attention. Then, if necessary, they would send to us wherever we might be... but we've not had to do that in the 10 years we've been taking several month long trips.

We have used St. Brendan's Isle for years and they have been great.
Many options available...view mail, hold mail, forward mail, open and scan mail, and shred mail.

Get a box at your local UPS Store. Change the mailing address of all your accounts to the UPS box. When you're on the road, call the UPS store and have them forward all the mail that is currently in your box to the US Post Office where you're at (or going to be at). If you know you'll be in Tampa on July 3, call the UPS store a week in advance to give them time to pack it up, ship it and get it to the US Post office in Tampa. UPS will charge you a few bucks each time you do this. When you're not on the road, you'll need to pick up your mail at the UPS store. A side benefit of this is junk mail is not sent to UPS boxes.
