We have an EMS but it doesn't seem to linked to the slides at all.

It's not. The only way the EMS would have any relationship to your problem is that it might have prevented the battery charging system from stopping to work.

The slides are 12 VDC and take a lot of power. That means full batteries and maybe some help from the converter or engine system. That would have me wondering what the state of charge was on the house batteries. Did anyone measure the voltage there?

If the house batteries were fully charged I'd be inclined to think you had a non related failure in the slide control. The power surge should not have anything to do with the system other than to possibly mess up battery charging.
